The Atlàntida Mallorca film festival kicked off this Monday with the traditional opening gala held at La Misericòrdia. The event, which reaches its thirteenth edition in 2023, featured the premiere of “Quest”, the debut film by Mallorcan Antonina Obrador. Starring Enric Auquer – winner of the Goya for best new actor for his role in “Quien a hierro mata” – and Laia Manzanares, the film was shot between Felanitx and sa Dragonera and tells the story of a biologist who lost his wife in Mallorca.
Almost a thousand people attended the inaugural gala of Atlàntida Mallorca, which was attended by numerous stars and well-known faces. In addition to Auquer and Manzanares, the event was also attended by three-time Gaudí nominee Miki Esparbé, producer and widow of Michelangelo Antonioni, Enrica Fico, directors Javier Ruiz Caldera (“Spanish Movie”), Luc Knowles (“Libélulas”) and Antonina Obrador (“Quest”) as well as the protagonists of some of the most popular series in the country such as “Élite” (Mina El Hammami, Guillermo Capra), “Entrevías” (María de Nati), “Amar es para siempre” (Mariam Hernández, Fernando Guallar), “Vis a Vis” (Maggie Civantos and Harlys Becerra) paraded around the photocall in the courtyard of La Misericòrdia.
Also in attendance were the former president of the Govern, Francina Armengol, the director general of IB3, Andreu Manresa, the artists and members of the jury of the Official Selection, Susy Gómez and Pep Girbent; the poet Biel Mesquida, the Secretary of State for Digital Advancement, Cristina Morales, the director of the European Union’s Media Programme, Lucía Recalde, the photographer Claire O’Keefe, the singer Júlia Colom, the directors Ventura Durall (winner of 2 Gaudí Awards), Jaume Carrió (Goya winner), Toni Bestard (Goya nominee), Victòria Morell and Marga Melià, among many others.
This year, the event was honoured to have the participation of the talented artist Queralt Lahoz in the opening ceremony. Her performance offered the audience a mixture of flamenco tradition, hip hop and poetry in a vindicative key. After her performance, an intimate tribute was paid to the Mallorcan director Agustí Villaronga, and there was also a special tribute to the gallery owner Juan Antonio Horrach, who was closely linked to the festival.
