The president of the Congress, the socialist Francina Armengol, has called for next Wednesday and Thursday, November 15 and 16, the investiture debate of the secretary general of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, who was appointed candidate by the King at the beginning of last October.
Francina Armengol, president of the Congress of Deputies, has already communicated the dates to the parliamentary groups and the debate will take place in a similar way to the one faced by Alberto Núñez Feijóo at the end of September.
In this one, the Government is guaranteed the support of 179 votes after the agreements reached with Sumar, ERC, Bildu, Junts, PNV, BNG and Coalición Canaria. Sufficient, since the absolute majority is 176 votes.
In addition, this Monday the PSOE has registered the amnesty law in Congress, a definitive step agreed with Junts per Catalunya for the investiture of Sánchez to come to fruition.
The electoral law establishes that in the event that the first attempt on November 15 and 16 fails, a second vote will be held after 48 hours. Therefore, on Saturday 18, when the PSOE leader would only need a simple majority, more ‘yeses’ than ‘noes’.
The investiture comes 16 weeks after the elections and barely two weeks before the deadline expires -next November 27-, after which a new general election would have been automatically called for January. The plenary session will take place after the failed investiture process of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, last September 29th. Then he did not get more ‘yeses’ than ‘noes’ in the vote of the Congress in which he only obtained the support of Vox, Coalición Canaria and UPN, in addition to that of his own deputies.
