In May, the Balearic Islands received 1.79 million visits, 10.24% more than in May 2022. This places it as the top destination in Spain, slightly ahead of Catalonia.
In addition, these visitors spent close to 2 billion euros (1.92 billion). This figure represents a 5.59% increase on the figure recorded a year ago. So far this year, 3.65 million people have visited the Balearic Islands.
Spain, meanwhile, received a record 8.2 million international tourists in May, 17.6% more than in the same month in 2022 and 3.8% more than in May 2019, before the pandemic.
These visitors also made a record expenditure for a month of May, with 9,723 million euros, 20.8% more than a year ago and 19.5% more than the best pre-pandemic figure. This was stated on Tuesday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
