The annual rate of change in the CPI in October stood at 7.3%, more than one and a half points lower than in September, which represents a moderation in the rise in inflation. For its part, the annual rate of core inflation remained at 6.2%, according to data published today by the INE. The monthly change in the general index in October was therefore 0.3%.

The groups that stood out for their influence on the fall in the annual rate were housing, which decreased its variation by more than 11.5 points, to 2.6%, due to the fall in electricity and, to a lesser extent, gas, compared with the rise in October 2021. Also clothing and footwear, with a rate of 1.4%, two and a half points lower than in the previous month. This evolution is due to the fact that the increase in prices due to the start of the new season is more moderate than in October 2021.

For its part, the group with the greatest positive influence was food and non-alcoholic beverages, which placed its rate at 15.4%, one point higher than last month, and the highest since the beginning of the series, in January 1994. Of note in this behaviour were the increases in the prices of vegetables, milk, cheese, eggs and meat, which were higher this month than in 2021.
