2022 Sailing King's Cup: trophy ceremony

This Saturday, 6th August, the trophies for the Copa del Rey 2022 sailing regatta were awarded at the Parc de la Mar in Palma. King Felipe VI presented the awards to the winners of the “40th Copa del Rey-Mapfre” regatta.

In total, 111 teams from 18 countries competed in the regattas over these 6 days in the bay of Palma. A total of 4 divisions for the BMW ORC fleet: it has been divided into 5 different monotypes that sailed in real time and four classes have kept the same compensated time: BMW ORC 1, 2, 3 and 4. The famous phenomenon of the Embat over the bay of Palma, has allowed the realization of these 6 days of racing with an ideal wind for this type of competitions. It should be noted that there are winners of the Copa del Rey de vela 2021 who have competed this year to try to win the cup again.

The first group included the Argentinean runner-up Fernando Chaín in the Form Now On, as well as the Spanish Armada’s Aifos 500, in which King Felipe VI usually competes, coming within three points of the podium last year.

Javier Banderas’ Teatro Soho Caixabank won the trophy, revalidating last year’s title in BMW ORC 2.

Among the groups 3 and 4 with units of a smaller length, the results of teams such as Tanit 3 Medievel of the owner María José and with Nacho Campos at the helm and the Italian Scugnizza of Enzo de Blasio are worth mentioning. In BMW ORC 4 it is worth mentioning Otto Pohlmann’s Meerblick Fun, which won the consecutive partial victory. He became champion by only 4 points ahead of F. Miguel Giménez’s Enewtec.
