The Pixar universe lands at CaixaForum Palma with a program full of activities for all audiences. Until next January 9, 2022, the space in Plaça de Weyler will host the exhibition “Pixar. Building characters”. An exhibition that delves into the process of creating the protagonists and the visual development of the films and the animation studio, the result of long and careful teamwork.
Through audiovisual testimonies, the studio’s own cartoonists reveal the ins and outs behind the construction of the studio’s mythical and endearing protagonists. In total, this Pixar exhibition at CaixaForum exhibits 124 drawings and 48 models. In them you can see the construction process to reach its final appearance. These are works that belong to different productions of the factory. From “Toy Story” to “Soul” -his most recent film represented with a sketch-, going through “Brave”, “Ratatouille”, “Monsters”, “Cars”, “Bugs”, “Coco” and “Up”.
Some of the original drawings included in the Pixar exhibition at CaixaForum have never before been shown outside the studios and reflect how each artist chooses which technique best suits their individual style. There are drawings in pencil, marker, gouache, digital painting, acrylic, watercolor… Storyboard fragments are also included, which show how each step in the evolution of a character responds to a literary script but also a graphic one.
“Pixar. Building Characters” also includes various audiovisuals. Among them, the one that welcomes visitors to the exhibition, the animated short “Luxo Jr.” (1986), one of the first Pixar projects, directed by John Lasseter, who was the creative director of the studios and director of “Toy Story.”
