The five beaches in the municipality of Palma have received the “Safe Tourism” certification. This distinctive, awarded by the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality, confirms compliance with risk prevention requirements through an audit. For this reason, the beaches of Cala Major, Ciutat Jardí, Can Pere Antoni, Cala Estància and Platja de Palma are considered safe destinations for all users.
To show this certification, the city council has raised the flag with the distinction “Safe Tourism” in the five beaches, something that happens for the first time.
The safety certification recognizes compliance with the UNE ISO / PAS 5643: 202 standard. This establishes the requirements and recommendations to prevent the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. The goal is to protect both workers and bathers, providing services for tourists and residents safely.

Cleaning and capacity
“Safe Tourism” certifies that the services of Cala Major, Ciutat Jardí, Can Pere Antoni, Cala Estància and Platja de Palma have some of these measures:
- General prevention measures, existence of a contingency plan, information, cleaning and disinfection, etc.
- Capacity control and control of access points.
- Auxiliary and complementary services that meet the established safety and prevention requirements (public toilets, restaurants, etc.).
Precisely the capacity control protocol and information to users has been one of the most valued aspects on the beaches of Palma. This has made it possible to satisfactorily address situations with a capacity close to the maximum allowed, especially on Cala Major beach. The information to the users and the control in the accesses has allowed not to reach the limit of the planned capacity.
