Etihad Airways has announced that it will operate direct flights between Abu Dhabi and Palma starting 12 June 2026. With this new route, Son Sant Joan airport will have, for the first time, a direct air connection with Asia and will open a new high-spending market for the Balearic tourism sector.

The flights operated by the airline from the United Arab Emirates will be available until mid-September with three weekly frequencies, on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Departures from Abu Dhabi will be at 02:55, arriving in Palma at 08:15. The return flight will depart from Palma at 10:30 and arrive in Abu Dhabi at 19:00.
The route will be operated with the new Airbus A321LR, offering private suites in First Class, lie-flat seats in Business Class, and a modern, spacious Economy cabin.
Abu Dhabi-Palma: gateway to the Balearics
Etihad Airways CEO, Antonoaldo Neves, stated in a press release:
“Palma de Mallorca is the perfect addition to our summer schedule. From marinas and nightlife to hidden coves and historic towns, Mallorca has something for every traveller. We look forward to connecting our guests from Abu Dhabi and across our network to this Balearic gem – the ultimate summer escape aboard our new A321LR.”
According to Etihad’s press release, Palma acts as a gateway to Ibiza and the rest of the Balearic Islands, giving travellers access to its famous beaches, nightlife, and other tourist destinations in the region. This announcement makes Palma the 29th destination for Etihad Airways.
Tickets are already available on etihad.com and the airline’s mobile app.
More intercontinental flights
With this announcement, Etihad joins Air Canada, which recently announced the launch of its route between Montreal and Palma de Mallorca starting 17 June 2026, with four weekly frequencies until 24 October. In this way, Palma strengthens its position as an intercontinental destination with two new direct connections —from Asia and North America— consolidating its international profile.
