ORA zone in Palma

The Municipal Parking and Projects Company (SMAP) has detected an attempted fraud in several terminals of the ORA zone in Palma. According to the entity, false stickers placed on the parking machines, displaying the message “Scan and Pay”, were immediately removed. These stickers included a QR code that redirected users to a fraudulent website.

The discovery was made after a similar case came to light on ORA machines managed by the Balearic Ports Authority (APB). Following that warning, municipal company controllers inspected the city’s terminals to rule out irregularities. It was then that they found that the official stickers, originally intended to direct users to a satisfaction survey, had been removed. In their place, tampered stickers had been placed.

The Foners district, the most affected ORA zone in Palma

SMAP officials indicate that the majority of the affected terminals are located in the Foners district. Nevertheless, inspection teams will continue checking other areas in order to ensure user safety and prevent possible fraud.

The municipal company has already reported the incidents to the National Police, providing evidence of the tampering and the fraudulent websites to which the QR codes redirected. This measure aims to strengthen the investigation to identify those responsible.

Meanwhile, SMAP will maintain constant surveillance over the parking meters in the Balearic capital. Controllers will be responsible for immediately removing any new suspicious stickers that may be placed on the terminals.

The entity has also requested citizen collaboration to help curb this type of fraudulent practice. Anyone who detects stickers with QR codes different from the usual ones can report them directly to the company via email at info@smap.palma.es or by calling 971 214 646.

SMAP reminds users that the official public parking payment systems do not include links through external stickers. In case of doubt, they advise using the traditional payment methods or consulting the authorised mobile application.
