More than 100,000 taxpayers will benefit from a tax saving of 43.6 million euros in this year’s 2024 tax return in the Balearic Islands, representing an increase of 156.7% compared to 2022. This was announced by the Vice President of the Government, Antoni Costa, during the presentation of the Renta Ágil service, highlighting that this campaign will have the highest number of regional deductions, more beneficiaries, and greater economic impact since the programme started.

This year, 25 regional deductions are available in the personal income tax (IRPF), five new ones and one improved. Additionally, income thresholds have been raised, so that 8 out of 10 taxpayers will be able to apply some deduction.

Renta Ágil service: dates, contact and municipalities

From this Monday until 27 June, the Balearic Islands Tax Agency (ATIB) has opened the period to request appointments for the Renta Ágil service, which provides face-to-face assistance to prepare the IRPF tax return.

The service is offered at 16 service points in Mallorca, located in the municipalities of Alaró, Alcúdia, Algaida, Andratx, Capdepera, Felanitx, Pollença, Porreres, Santanyí, Santa Margalida, Ses Salines, Sineu, Sóller, Valldemossa and in premises ceded in Esporles and Fornalutx. Additionally, they provide coverage to another 35 localities such as Artà, Campos, Deià, Muro, Montuïri, Lloret, Maria de la Salut, Sant Joan, Sencelles, Son Servera, among others.

Meanwhile, the State Tax Administration Agency (AEAT) maintains its service in Palma, Ibiza, Mahón, Inca and Manacor. Appointments can be booked at www.aeat.es or by calling 901 223 344. In total, between ATIB and AEAT, there are 21 service points available in the Balearic Islands.

Main regional deductions for the 2024 tax return in the Balearic Islands

Here are some of the most notable deductions that can be applied this year in the IRPF tax return:

  • Deduction for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis): Covers 100% of expenses related to the condition, up to a maximum of 3,500 euros.

  • Care for people over 65 or with disabilities: Up to 660 euros for costs of residential care, day centres, or hiring carers. Improved to allow application by all taxpayers regarding common ascendants.

  • Difficult-to-fill or very difficult-to-fill jobs: Deduction of 40% on housing or inter-island transport costs. Limits of 1,000 or 2,000 euros, depending on income level. Increased by 30% for public workers based in Formentera and reduced by 30% for those based in Mallorca. For the first time, includes National Police and Civil Guard officers stationed in Balearics.

  • Permanent housing rental: Deduction of 50% of expenses (insurance, maintenance, energy certificates, etc.), up to 1,500 euros, or 1,800 euros if rented to the Autonomous Community for subletting under programmes like Secure Rental.

  • Registration as self-employed (new deduction): 1,000 euros for those registering for the first time. Income limits have been raised, and it can be applied per family member in joint taxation cases.

  • Childbirth: Income limits extended to 52,800 euros (individual) and 84,480 euros (joint). If exceeded, 50% of the amount can be deducted.
