The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, has requested in Madrid a special regime for the cultural sector so that “the insularity factor is taken into account and for the Ministry to grant subsidies in the autonomous communities, as well as other fiscal measures that could benefit the cultural sector.” He also added that “very necessary actions are required to improve the presence of island productions in performance spaces, applying positive discrimination measures, as well as compensating for the logistical overruns.” For his part, the director of the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics (IEB), Llorenç Perelló, highlighted that “the Government of the Balearic Islands is committed to internationalisation, which is reflected in the 1.3 million euros allocated this year to the IEB’s external projection grants.”

These statements were made during the institutional visit to ARCOmadrid 2025, in which Bauzà and Perelló participated, along with the Regional Secretary of Culture, Pedro Vidal, the President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, and the Vice-President of the Consell and Councillor for Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca.

TAPÍS, by Mònica Fuster

The visit began at the IEB stand, where the TAPÍS proposal by Balearic artist Mònica Fuster, curated by Sebastià Mascaró, is exhibited after being selected in the IEB call to participate in this year’s edition.

The Balearic delegation also toured the stands of the archipelago’s galleries present at the fair, such as Baró, Florit/Florit, Parra & Romero, Cayón, Pelaires, and Fermay. In addition, they were able to visit the stands of other galleries exhibiting works by artists from the Balearic Islands as well as those related to current and future exhibition projects by museums and institutions in the islands.

Furthermore, the IEB stand hosted the presentation of the new editorial collection of Es Baluard Museu, with publications on the current exhibitions “Nachleben. Painting as Conceptual Art” and “The Green Fog” by José Fiol, as well as the book on the exhibition by artist Ana Laura Aláez held last year.

The authorities also visited the 9th edition of Urvanity, located at Matadero Madrid, with stops at the galleries of Pep Llabrés, La Bibi, Gallery Red, and Stain Projects.
