The Casal Solleric in Palma is hosting the exhibition “Quino en la música“ from 24 October 2024, a tribute to the iconic Argentine cartoonist Joaquín Salvador Lavado Tejón, better known as Quino. The exhibition coincides with the 70th anniversary of the publication of his first comic strip and the 60th anniversary of the creation of Mafalda, his most famous character.
A journey through Quino’s legacy
The exhibition, which will run until 8 January 2025, will feature over 100 original pieces by Quino, curated by Judith Gociol and Guillermo Lavado, the artist’s nephew and a musician. “Quino en la música” offers a unique exploration of one of the cartoonist’s great passions: music. The exhibition delves into his fascination with this art form, reflected in his work, along with the comedy and reflections that Quino captured in his drawings throughout his career.
In addition to the iconic Mafalda, this exhibition explores other worlds created by Quino, showcasing how music was always a recurring theme in his works.
Highlight event of the Còmic Nostrum Festival
“Quino en la música” is part of the International Comic Festival of Mallorca, Còmic Nostrum, and is one of the main events of the festival, which runs from 24 to 28 October. The Casal Solleric will be the venue for this exhibition, while other municipal spaces, such as Can Balaguer, will host talks, masterclasses, and workshops related to comics.
Guided tour with Quino’s nephews
One of the highlights of the exhibition will be the guided tour on Saturday, 26 October at 11:00 am, led by Guillermo Lavado and Diego Lavado, Quino’s nephews. During this event, visitors will get an in-depth look at the stories behind the comic strips and the creative process of the famous author.
A project that supports culture in Palma
The exhibition has been made possible thanks to the Ajuntament de Palma‘s commitment to the International Comic Festival, to which it has allocated over €30,000, double the amount contributed in 2023. This support is not only focused on “Quino en la música”, but also on organising drawing workshops, guided tours, and other educational activities for the public.
Quino’s work remains relevant in contemporary culture, and this exhibition offers a unique opportunity to discover his legacy from a new perspective: his love for music.
