The 2022 Beata celebration in Palma kick off on Friday 14th October. A celebration deeply rooted in the city that will culminate on Saturday 15th with the placing of the triumphal chariot of Santa Catalina Tomàs. One of the novelties of this year’s 2022 is that the itinerary has been modified. This means that the festival will be centred on the places linked to the life of Santa Catalina in Palma.

In the words of Bel Busquets, first vice-president of the Consell, in the Fiestas de la Beata de Palma 2022 “the route will be more popular, closer and related to the moments in the life of the Blessed in the city. We wanted to relate this rethinking of the festivities to a project we are currently working on, such as the declaration of all the processions of the Blessed in Mallorca as BICIM, an asset of intangible cultural interest”.
The Fiestas de la Beata de Palma 2022 are organised by the Consell de Mallorca and the Bishopric. An event that has not been held since 2019 due to the restrictions resulting from the pandemic.

Palma’s Beata celebration 2022 programme

A group of xeremiers will welcome the presentation of the Beateta this Friday, 14th October, at 6:30 pm. This event, which will be held in the church of the convent of Santa Maria Magdalena, will kick off the Fiestas de la Beata de Palma 2022. The festival has been held since 1792 and is linked to the festivities held all over Mallorca on the occasion of the beatification of Saint Catalina Tomàs. This year 2022 the character of the Beateta will be represented by Maria Helena Serra Truyols. This will be followed by a catechesis by Mn. Marc Capó y Mestre on Saint Catalina Tomàs for children in the church of Santa Magdalena.

On Saturday, 15th October, it will be the turn of the solemn concelebration of the Eucharist, presided over by the Bishop of Mallorca, Mons. Sebastià Taltavull y Anglada. As is tradition, the main event will be the placing of the triumphal chariot of Saint Catalina Tomàs, starting at 19:00. It will feature the participation of folk dance associations, xeremiers, little angels, giants and floats, accompanied by peasants.

The parade is presided over by the triumphal chariot of the Beata, which dates from 1868 and forms part of the historical and artistic heritage of the Consell. The route will start in the Hospital square and will continue along the Costa de la Sang, the Rambla, Riera street, Market square, Union street, San Jaime street and will end in Santa Maria Magdalena square. At the end of the route, there will be a floral offering and the veneration of the body of Saint Catalina Tomàs.
