Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani de Palma celebrates its 20th anniversary on 30th January 2024 with various commemorative acts and events. A programme of free activities for the public to celebrate its two decades. In this way, it will be a year of opening up the museum to local society, of gratitude to all the visitors, users, groups, entities and professionals who have enjoyed and participated throughout these 20 years in the spaces and the numerous activities and proposals presented.

Under the slogan “Imagine the future”, work will be done to rethink the future of the institution, learning from the past, to make it a friendly, welcoming, diverse and critical space.

The celebration of the 20th anniversary of Es Baluard Museu will be articulated in three axes: the institutional act that will take place on the 30th itself, the inauguration of the exhibition “In dialogue: Museum and Collection” followed by a festive celebration, and the programming of activities and diverse proposals aimed at all ages and profiles that will be carried out during the anniversary week (from January 30th to February 4th).

One of the main lines of work in 2024 will be the opening of the museum to the public. Thus, a programme of free guided tours of the Collection exhibition is being launched, which will begin the same week as the anniversary. They will be conducted in Catalan and Spanish, as well as in English.

On the other hand, on the occasion of the anniversary, a special edition has been produced in daily format with unpublished illustrations by the artist Pere Joan. There are 20 original colour drawings, one for each year, with no correlative or temporal narrative structure. They are free interpretations of the Museum, the collection, the building and the activities carried out.

In addition, a specific graphic image has been created that can be seen in different urban, advertising, corporate and digital media during this year.

All the activities programmed as part of Es Baluard Museu’s 20th anniversary are free of charge. In addition, the museum offers a week of open doors from 30 January to 4 February. The rest of the programme is as follows:

  • Tuesday 30.01.24: 19:30 – Inauguration Exhibition “In dialogue: Museum and Collection”. From 20:00, celebration of the 20th Anniversary in the Aljub.
  • Wednesday 31.01.24: 19:00 Round table: “Spaces for art: the architecture of museums”. With the participation of the architects: Rafael Moneo, Josep Lluís Mateo, Vicente Tomás and Lluís García-Ruiz. Moderator: Marta Vall-llosera (President CSCAE).
  • Thursday 1.02.24: 19:00 Lecture: “Museums for the 21st century”. With the participation of the President of ICOM Spain: Dora Llamas.
  • Friday 2.02.24: 19:00 Show: “Temporal” by the company Ploma. Vertical dance-theatre in the courtyard of the Museum.
  • Saturday 3.02. 24: 12:00 Show: “Poi” by the company D’es Tro. Circus with spinning tops.
