Out! 2023 the Balearic Islands LGTBIQ+ Film Festival<\/a> reaches its sixth edition and will be held again in September, from the 20th to the 28th. Organized by the cultural association M\u00e8dit to vindicate the affective, sexual and gender diversity that exists in our society, this year it will offer a selection of nineteen titles: three fiction feature films and two documentaries, as well as fourteen short films that participate in the competition of the festival and other parallel activities.<\/p>\nThe festival will kick off on September 20, at 8:00 p.m., at the Xesc Forteza Theater. The opening gala, presented by actors Gipsy Nelo Peeters and N’ej\u00fa, will also feature a performance by the group ‘Fades, Fades, Fades’ with their hit “Catalonian Girls”, a Catalan version of Katy Perry’s “Californian Girls”.<\/p>\n
“Two Eyes” (United States, 2020), directed by Travis Fine, is the film chosen to open this edition of Out!, a cinematic triptych that follows three characters in three different periods, with a deep and timeless connection, exploring the theme of gender, love, pain and the power of art to transcend time.<\/p>\n

Out! 2023 will screen 19 feature films, documentaries and short films<\/h2>\n
As for the short film contest, fourteen have been selected from among the seventy pieces submitted to the competition: nine fiction short films and five documentaries. Among them, three Mallorcan films stand out: “Un diumenge qualsevol”, by Eugenia Sampedro; “Les coses que mai et vaig dir”, by Marina Rueda; and “G\u00e9nesis”, by Ester Moy\u00e0.<\/p>\n
This year for the first time, Out! will have a jury of three professionals from the film world, who will decide the winning short films in the two sections: best fiction short film and best documentary short film. They are Helher Escribano, filmmaker and director of Ibicine; Virginia Gal\u00e1n, production director; and filmmaker Gerard Volt\u00e0.<\/p>\n
In addition to the films, the exhibition includes activities such as ‘Out Jove’, aimed at schools, with the Associaci\u00f3 Ben Amics; ‘Cinema Positiu’, co-organized with the association ALAS Salud i Sexualitats; and ‘Interseccionalitat al Cinema Queer’, a meeting with female filmmakers from Mallorca.<\/p>\n
