<\/p>\nThe Consell de Mallorca will create the Mallorcan Archaeology Centre. The facilities will be located in Sa Tanca de Can Dom\u00e8nech in Alc\u00fadia, next to the Roman city of Pollentia. The centre aims to provide shelter and visibility for all the objects that have been found at the island’s archaeological sites. Until now, these have been in storage. In addition, the Mallorcan Archaeology Centre will provide researchers with multi-purpose rooms equipped to enable them to carry out their work in the most professional manner possible.<\/p>\n
This was announced by the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Lloren\u00e7 Galm\u00e9s, and the vice-president and councillor of Culture and Heritage, Ant\u00f2nia Roca. According to Lloren\u00e7 Galm\u00e9s, it is evidence of the commitment to “rehabilitate, conserve and disseminate our culture and heritage”. It will be possible to “centralise all the island’s archaeological activity to make it known to all Mallorcans and visitors”. All this, he insisted, while supporting the island’s archaeologists.<\/p>\n
“Thousands and thousands of objects that have been found at archaeological sites on the island and which are of great heritage value are stored at Son Tous,” said Galm\u00e9s. He also gave as an example the 300 amphorae and archaeological pieces that were recovered from the Roman ship at Ses Fontanelles, but there are some 40,000 in total from different sites on the island.<\/p>\n

The new government team of the Consell de Mallorca visited the Roman City of Pollentia, where the directors of the excavations, Miguel \u00c0ngel Cau and Catalina Mas, showed them some of the most recent findings: pieces of Italic pottery, coins, and even a large-capacity Roman cistern that is now being studied.<\/p>\n
The event was also attended by the island’s Director of Heritage, Ram\u00f3n Mart\u00edn. He stressed the importance of “compiling, studying and showing the public all the archaeological gems on Mallorca”. In addition, the mayoress of Alc\u00fadia, Fina Linares, and the town’s Heritage councillor, Margalida Ferriol, expressed their gratitude for carrying out this type of project, which will help to deseasonalise the town’s tourist activity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
