The main reason, according to Escarrer, is that a high tourist demand is maintained despite inflation. This was explained during a press conference held this Tuesday, in which he confirmed the return to normality in the tourism sector. “The desire to travel continues,” he said, in addition to highlighting the good performance of tourism for congresses and events (MICE), as well as the boom in Asian markets.<\/p>\n
Escarrer presented to the media the results of the hotel chain during the first half of 2023. In this period, Meli\u00e1 registered a net profit of 49 million euros and the group’s income up to June amounted to 909.7 million euros. The data shows an increase of 22.7% compared to 2022.<\/p>\n
During his speech, Escarrer was asked about the new government team in the Balearic Islands. The CEO wanted to refer to the Tourism Law of the Balearic Islands, on which he is in favor of maintaining the “very positive things” of the norm, mainly in terms of sustainability, quality and social matters, although there are others to improve. In this sense, he took advantage of the occasion to demand that the Government continue the fight against the illegal tourist offer.<\/p>\n
