The Balearic Islands became the preferred destination for rural tourism in June with 200,209 overnight stays (1.1% less than in the same month of the previous year) and reached the highest occupancy rate in the whole country, with 62.5% of the bedplaces covered. This is according to the Tourist Accommodation Occupancy Survey published by the National Statistics Institute (INE).<\/p>\n

The figures reveal that Mallorca is the favourite tourist area among rural tourists, with 163,308 overnight stays, followed by Menorca, which exceeds Mallorca’s occupancy rate with 67.2% of the bedplaces booked.<\/p>\n

With more than 10.5 million overnight stays in regulated tourist accommodation in the first half of the year, the Balearic Islands is the leading rural tourism destination in Spain, ahead of Catalonia (more than 9.5 million) and Andalusia (more than 7.2 million).<\/p>\n
