The 25th of July is Sant Jaume, patron saint of Alc\u00fadia, a festivity that is celebrated in style in different towns on the island. A week before the date, the festivities begin in the municipality in the north of Mallorca with concerts, open-air dances, theatre, exhibitions and religious celebrations<\/p>\n

Alc\u00fadia celebrates the day of its patron saint, Sant Jaume, with a full programme of activities<\/a> that centre on the big day, the 25th of July. This year also marks the 500th anniversary of the granting of the title of City to Alc\u00fadia in 1523.<\/p>\n

Among the outstanding events, every three years the Triennal del Sant Crist takes place, a deeply-rooted religious mass and procession that arouses great devotion among the ‘alcudiencs’. The origin of this procession dates back to 1507. According to tradition, the image of Sant Crist sweated blood and water, thus putting an end to a period of drought. The next Triennal is in 2025.<\/p>\n

And as the icing on the cake, on the night of Sant Jaume, a fireworks display is held next to the wall, which puts an end to a week of festivities and fun, although the different activities continue until the 30th of July.<\/p>\n
