The City Council of the town promotes the Festival de Pollen\u00e7a in its 62nd edition this 2023 in which it remains a cultural reference and unmissable event for lovers of classical music. This year there will be six central concerts in its program, three of which will be symphonic and three in chamber format<\/p>\n
Since the first Pollen\u00e7a Festival, held in 1962 at the initiative of the famous English violinist Philip Newman, more than 800 first-class artists have performed their music in the Claustre de Sant Domingo de Pollen\u00e7a. This historic site of great beauty and excellent acoustics allows, year after year, to enjoy music under the starry sky.<\/p>\n
The Pollen\u00e7a Festival, in its 62nd edition, continues its trajectory as an unmissable event for the ‘pollencins’ and visitors to this town during the month of August, which has become the cultural beacon of classical music in Europe.<\/p>\n
In its 62nd edition, the symphonic concerts of the powerful Chamber Orchestra of Europe in the hands of the international baton of Daniel Harding; the symphonic-choral concert with the CUIB-OSIB and the traditional structure of overture-concert-symphony with the DKB stand out. The event also commemorates the 50th anniversary of the death of maestro Pau Casals. Thus, in the concert on August 25 the prestigious cellist Nicolas Aldstaedt will perform two cello concertos: the Concerto in C major by Haydn and the Concerto in G major by Boccherini, with the baroque ensemble Arcangelo conducted by Jonathan Cohen.<\/p>\n
Thus, the Pollen\u00e7a Festival has focused this 2023 on the new creation of women composers with the touring premiere of the work of the German composer Aziza Sadikova: Concerto for violin and accordion “Labyrinthe du temps”, in the hands of one of the most prestigious soloists in the world, Hillary Hahn. The program also includes the first performance in Mallorca of Beethoven’s symphonic-choral work ‘Meeresstille und Gl\u00fcckliche Fahrt’ (‘Calm Sea and Happy Journey’). Besides being a center of creation of new initiatives, production and promotion with the project of the Arpeggiata – Christina Pluhar & Maria del Mar Bonet, a joint initiative of the Festival de Pollen\u00e7a with the Festival de Torroella de Montgr\u00ed and a tour in co-production with the Festival de Sagunto in which a repertoire of confluence of melodies, rhythms, tunes and songs of Mediterranean tradition is presented.<\/p>\n
