The Fira Nocturna Marinera de Portocolom, in the municipality of Felanitx, will be on the 16th of July in the Pla\u00e7a de Sant Jaume, coinciding with the celebration of the Mare de D\u00e9u del Carme, patron saint of sailors and fishermen<\/p>\n

On 16th July, in a seafaring atmosphere, the Fira Nocturna Marinera de Portocolom<\/a> (Portocolom Night-time Seafaring Fair) is held once again this year to honour the Mare de D\u00e9u del Carme, patron saint of many towns along the Mediterranean coast and of its sailors and fishermen. A festival that is commemorated with its seafaring processions throughout the length and breadth of Spain.<\/p>\n

The opening of the festivities in Portocolom are inaugurated with a procession of boats in the port. In the Pla\u00e7a de Sant Jaume, most of the market stalls are set up with local handicrafts, including decorative objects and local food and gastronomic products typical of the islands, among others. Before the traditional procession, a mass is held for the Virgin. And as a complementary event to the fair, the Nit d’Havaneres (Havaneres Night) takes place with performances by different musical groups for lovers of this musical genre.<\/p>\n

The procession of boats carries the image of the Virgin out to sea, in a tribute to her when their sirens are repeatedly sounded. In most seafaring processions, a floral offering is made by throwing branches into the water, in memory of all those who have met their death at sea. On returning to port, the image of the Virgin is carried before the procession.<\/p>\n

Seafaring culture in the east of Mallorca<\/h2>\n

The Fira Nocturna Marinera de Portocolom is a unique experience to immerse yourself in the rich seafaring culture of the region. As well as enjoying the local food and crafts, visitors can watch the fishing boats and enjoy the beauty of the port. It is an opportunity to appreciate maritime life and celebrate the history and traditions of the fishermen of this town in the east of Mallorca.<\/p>\n

In addition to food and shopping, the Fira offers a wide variety of cultural and entertainment activities. Visitors can enjoy live bands performing traditional and contemporary music. There are also dance and theatre performances, as well as exhibitions and other artistic events.<\/p>\n

For the little ones, children’s activities are organised, such as craft workshops, traditional games and boat trips around the harbour. This makes the fair a family event and is aimed at all audiences.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
