“Concerts are never real music”, said Chopin back in the 19th century. No wonder, as the famous musician who lived in Valldemossa was not made for giving concerts, as he acknowledged. If he were to look up today, he would find a Mallorca full of concerts and festivals. The summer is full of festivals in Mallorca in 2023.<\/p>\n

The island is experiencing a musical boom, as Miki Jaume, promoter and events programmer for Grup Trui, confirms. “Since the pandemic, the public’s desire to attend and enjoy the experiences has skyrocketed. The national figures indicate that live music has grown by more than 80% from 2021 to 2022, and in Mallorca both attendance and artistic programming have increased,” Jaume states.<\/p>\n

Economic impact<\/h2>\n

Last year’s figures are record-breaking. The most talked-about festival on the island, the Mallorca Live Festival, managed to generate an impact of 10.15 million euros in Calvi\u00e0 and Palma, with a record attendance of around 75,000. Its organisers are confident of repeating the success in the sixth edition, with The Chemical Brothers and Black Eyed Peas as main artists.<\/p>\n

And all this despite the fact that Mallorca is an island, “the great challenge we have,” explains the promoter of Grup Trui. “It means a greater increase in expenses, management time, risks in services and possible solutions to problems. This is the aspect that differentiates us from the mainland. When you share experiences and anecdotes with colleagues from other cities is when you realise how much effort we islanders make when faced with national or international artistic programmes for shows or festivals”.<\/p>\n

This insularity also has an influence when it comes to programming. “What we seek is to work with those we like, but above all we try to offer a variety of programmes, as there is an audience for everything. We have to be respectful of tastes, which is why the island has so much programming,” adds Jaume. This effort by the sector will make it possible to enjoy the concerts of artists such as David Bisbal, M\u00f3nica Naranjo, Vetusta Morla, Quevedo, Bad Gyal, Ant\u00f2nia Font, Joaqu\u00edn Sabina and Rauw Alejandro, among many others.<\/p>\n

In view of so much music on offer, the Trui promoter assures us that “all competition is good if the relationship is healthy and sincere, both with fellow musicians and with the public. It makes us more demanding of ourselves”. “Everything breaks down”, Jaume concludes, “when you don’t deliver; on the island, everything is known very quickly”.<\/p>\n
