Under the slogan “Museums, sustainability and wellbeing”, International Museum Day will<\/strong> be celebrated on Thursday 18th May. An annual event in which more than 30 cultural venues on Mallorca are taking part<\/p>\n

International Museum Day 2023 is being held on 18 May under the slogan “Museums, sustainability and wellbeing”. <\/strong>It\u00a0offers a multitude of activities in more than 30 cultural venues in Mallorca.<\/p>\n

Fundaci\u00f3 Sa Nostra, CaixaForum Palma, the Fundaci\u00f3 Pilar i Joan Mir\u00f3, the Fundaci\u00f3n Juan March, Es Baluard and the Casal Solleric<\/strong> are just some of the museums taking part in the festival. This takes place not only in Palma but also in the Part Forana of Mallorca<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Krekovic Museum<\/strong> is holding an open day with free admission to the permanent collection of Kristian Krekovic. It is also open to those of foreign artists with links to Mallorca.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Sa Nostra Foundation<\/strong> is opening the temporary exhibition ‘Joan Trujillo: dar luz a la oscuridad’, curated by Tomeu Simonet. The exhibition will remain open until the 29th of July.<\/p>\n

Maritime Museum of Mallorca<\/h2>\n

The centre has scheduled a series of activities to promote the island’s maritime heritage. The Ses Voltes site opens its doors with a guided tour to get to know the pieces that have just been added to the exhibition<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In addition, on Saturday 20th May<\/strong>, visitors will be able to enjoy the live work of the urban graffiti artist SOMA<\/strong>, who is giving the museum’s rooms a makeover.<\/p>\n

Likewise, the Maritime Museum of Mallorca has teamed up with MakesPace Mallorca to offer the first Solar Regatta of the Balearic Islands<\/strong>, which will take place on Saturday 20th May.<\/p>\n

As for the Maritime Museum’s other venue, the Museum of the Sea, located in Port de S\u00f3ller<\/strong>, on Friday the 19th of May it will host a concert with Pere Fiol on guitar and Xisco Aguil\u00f3 on double bass.<\/p>\n

For International Museum Day, the Museu de Mallorca has organised a workshop on death in prehistory, led by Marga Coll<\/strong>. This activity is aimed at students from the Department of Historical Sciences and Theory of the Arts at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). In the afternoon, another lecture is scheduled on ‘El consum de peix a la dieta medieval mallorquina’ (Fish consumption in the medieval Mallorcan diet),<\/strong> given by Dr. Pau Alcover Cateura.<\/p>\n

Mallorca Liter\u00e0ria Foundation<\/h2>\n

During the week of 15th to 21st May<\/strong>, the Mallorca Liter\u00e0ria Foundation has prepared a programme that includes visits to house museums, educational activities and other proposals based on literature.<\/p>\n

On Thursday the 18th of May, the Museo de la Palabra – Casa Rafael Ginard in Sant Joan<\/strong> will host the presentation of the book and inauguration of the exhibition ‘Sacrificis’<\/strong>, whose photographs and installations are by Jaume Perell\u00f3 and poems by Juan Miquel Chac\u00f3n. The exhibition will remain open until December 2023.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, on Friday the 19th of May<\/strong> there will be a wine and verse pairing with Raquel Pena, Manel Rodr\u00edguez Castell\u00f3 and Sebasti\u00e0 Perell\u00f3 at the new Casa Blai Bonet – Centro de Poes\u00eda (Blai Bonet House – Poetry Centre) in Santany\u00ed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On Saturday the 20th of May, the Mallorca Liter\u00e0ria Foundation is offering a guided tour of Palma<\/strong> dedicated to Josep Pla<\/strong>. Registration for this activity can be made on the Foundation’s website.<\/p>\n

On the same Saturday, the Casa Lloren\u00e7 Villalonga<\/strong> will be hosting family and literary activities throughout the morning, which are included in the ‘Primavera al jard\u00ed’ (Spring in the Garden) cycle.<\/strong><\/p>\n
