The European Parliament is investigating the former president of the Balearic Government, Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00f3n Bauz\u00e1, over a complaint of harassment at work by one of his parliamentary advisers<\/strong><\/p>\n

The parliamentary advisor denounced last summer the former president of the Balearic Government and Ciudadanos MEP, Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00f3n Bauz\u00e1<\/strong>, for alleged harassment at work and psychological harassment, according to El Confidencial<\/em>. The case is in the hands of the Consultative Committee<\/strong> in charge of studying complaints of psychological and sexual harassment and preventing these episodes in the European institution.<\/p>\n

The body is made up of five members from different parliamentary groups. It meets once a month and examines the circumstances of the alleged offence and may hear the Member who is the subject of a complaint. The committee works in confidentiality and, once the investigation is completed, forwards its opinion and possible sanctions to the President of the European Parliament<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Last January, MEP Roberta Metsola suspended PSOE MEP Monica Silvana Gonzalez<\/strong> from work for 30 days for “psychological harassment” against three parliamentary assistants, the biggest sanction of its kind in the history of the institution.<\/p>\n

For his part, a few months ago, Bauz\u00e1 was involved in a scandal over the collection of commissions from Qatar<\/strong>. The Mallorcan politician was forced to suspend the EU-Qatar Group of Friends. The case is still under investigation by the European Parliament authorities. At the time, Bauz\u00e1 assured that his defence of the Qatari regime was solely due to his conviction that it plays an essential role in the peace and modernity of the region.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
