Reis del m\u00f3n (Kings of the World)<\/em> and La Fundaci\u00f3 (The Foundation)<\/em>, on the figure of Joan March, onstage this Sunday the 19th at Palma’s Teatre Principal<\/strong><\/p>\n

Palma’s Teatre Principal is staging two plays on the figure of the financier and businessman Joan March<\/strong>. They offer a complementary vision of one of the leading figures in 20th-century Mallorca and Europe. They are Reis del m\u00f3n<\/a> (Kings of the World)<\/em>, a play based on the novel of the same name by Sebasti\u00e0 Alzamora<\/strong>, and La Fundaci\u00f3<\/em><\/a>, a text by Salvador Oliva, by the theatre company La Impaci\u00e8ncia.<\/p>\n

Reis del m\u00f3n<\/em> is a production of the Teatre Principal directed by Jos\u00e9 Martret, and is performed by Toni Gomila, Blai Llopis, Jordi Figueras and Carme Conesa<\/strong>. It also features music and sound space by Jaume Manresa, set design by Rafel Llad\u00f3 and costumes by Maria Mir\u00f3.<\/p>\n

It is a play that talks about Joan March and the relationship he had with another character<\/strong>, also born in Santa Margalida, Joan Mascar\u00f3, an intellectual who died in 1987<\/strong>. March and Mascar\u00f3, two real, antagonistic characters, meet in the early 1950s. Money and power versus the search for beauty and goodness. The financier and smuggler Joan March worked compulsively in his business<\/strong>, and became one of the richest and most powerful men of his time. Meanwhile, Joan Mascar\u00f3 was the main translator and disseminator of Hindu mystical thought<\/strong> in Western culture, a reference point (among others) for The Beatles, who dedicated the song The Inner Light to him<\/em>. He dedicated up to 20 years of his life to translating the Hindu poem: Bhagavad Gita<\/em>.<\/p>\n
