The Govern balear will ask the State to declare the Serra de Tramuntana a disaster area as a result of the consequences of storm Juliette. It also insists that unnecessary journeys to the Serra de Tramuntana be avoided<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Balearic Government has announced that the Balearic Islands will ask the Spanish Government to declare the Serra de Tramuntana<\/a> and other places severely affected by the storm a zone seriously affected by a civil protection emergency<\/strong>, known as a catastrophe zone. This was during a visit by the President of the Govern balear, Francina Armengol, to the area through which squall Juliette passed. Armengol explained that the Conselleria de Medi Ambient “will carry out an assessment and an extraordinary approach to restoring the forest area because there are many fallen trees”.<\/p>\n

According to the government, the priorities for the emergency services are the rescue of the people who remain isolated, the restoration of electricity and the removal of trees from the roads<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Rescue work continues in Cala Tuent, sa Calobra and Orient<\/h2>\n

At the moment, rescue work is continuing with helicopters from IBANAT, the UME and the Guardia Civil<\/strong> to rescue people who are isolated in the areas of Cala Tuent, sa Calobra and Orient.<\/strong> Yesterday afternoon, four people were rescued by helicopter from a family that was isolated in the refuge of C\u00faber. Earlier, another person had also been rescued from the Tossals Verds shelter.<\/p>\n

The second priority is to re-establish the electricity supply to those residents who still do not have it. There were still around 1,300 subscribers without electricity in different parts of Mallorca<\/strong>, as reported by the Endesa company.\u00a0<\/strong>The supply is expected to be restored over the next few hours.<\/p>\n

Avoiding unnecessary journeys to the Serra de Tramuntana<\/h2>\n

In view of this situation, Armengol has once again appealed to all citizens to avoid unnecessary journeys to the Serra de Tramuntana, whether by car or for excursions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The situation of the torrents is now under control. In addition, these days, around fifteen Environment agents are working on the operation. The works are\u00a0on a total of 64 kilometres of road and they are removing 1,705 trees or branches.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to information from the Consell de Mallorca, there are still nine stretches of road closed in different parts of the island at the moment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Finally, the President thanked the Emergency Service 112, IBANAT, Tragsa, SAMU-061, UME, Civil Protection, Civil Guard, National Police; as well as National Police, Bombers de Mallorca (Mallorca Fire Department), Consell de Mallorca and local police for all their work and their ability to respond to the consequences of the storm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
