The Annual Report of the Committee of Experts for Energy Transition and Climate Change in the Balearic Islands warns of the double vulnerability of the islands, which derives, on the one hand, from their insularity and, on the other, from the fact that they are located in a frontier territory such as the Mediterranean, between southern Europe and North Africa. In view of this situation, the report sets out the ten keys to climate change in the Balearic Islands:<\/p>\n

  1. Energy transition and climate action must be accelerated.<\/li>\n
  2. The sectors that emit the most in the Balearic Islands are energy generation and transport (more than 80%). These are the two sectors on which efforts should be focused.<\/li>\n
  3. To achieve the 2030 objectives, 600 MW of renewable energy per year must be installed.<\/li>\n
  4. A transformation of terrestrial mobility is essential to move towards zero emissions.<\/li>\n
  5. It is necessary to develop more sustainable and regenerative agriculture and livestock farming, as this is an effective way of reducing emissions.<\/li>\n
  6. We must change the economic model: develop other economic sectors that respond to the real needs of the islands’ citizens.<\/li>\n
  7. Allocate resources to the needs of the citizens of the Balearic Islands, to their physical and natural reality.<\/li>\n
  8. Include citizens in decision-making.<\/li>\n
  9. Reduce inequalities as a sine qua non condition for an effective transition. Equity is essential. Those who have more have more to contribute. Those who emit the most must reduce their emissions the most.<\/li>\n
  10. The transition needed to tackle climate change is an opportunity to build a more resilient Balearic Islands, more protected against changes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
