If current demographic trends continue, the Balearic Islands would be the autonomous community with the greatest relative increase in population over the next 15 years. In total, the inhabitants of the archipelago would increase by 25%, followed by Murcia (16%) and the Canary Islands (15.5%). These figures are taken from the “Population projections” report published by the INE. In absolute terms, the Balearic Islands would be the sixth fastest-growing autonomous community (243,473 inhabitants, thus exceeding 1.5 million), behind Catalonia, the Community of Madrid, Valencia, Andalusia and the Canary Islands.<\/p>\n
According to the projections published this Thursday, over the next 15 years Spain will gain 4,236,335 inhabitants (8.9%), to exceed 51 million people in 2037. By 2072, the population would reach 52.9 million, with an increase of 5.45 million people.<\/p>\n
The Balearic Islands also occupies first place in terms of the arrival of foreigners within the national territory, with a projected foreign migratory balance in the period 2022-2036 of 190.6 per thousand inhabitants.
