A large part of the Balearic audiovisual sector met last Friday with representatives of the Netflix platform. At the meeting they had the opportunity to exchange impressions with Ver\u00f3nica Fern\u00e1ndez, Netflix’s director of fiction in Spain and Portugal, and Beatriz \u00c1lvarez, Netflix’s coordinator of institutional relations in Spain and Portugal. The representatives of the digital platform shared a lively chat with the attendees in the Assembly Hall of La Misericordia.<\/p>\n

The meeting was organised by the Mallorca Film Commission to bring the platform closer to Mallorcan professionals. One of the objectives was to publicise their project selection processes and the type of content they are looking for. During the event, Netflix wanted to highlight its accessibility and debunk some myths. Among others, about the lower eligibility of productions in Catalan or projects in co-production with other entities.<\/p>\n

The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Catalina Cladera, presided over the event and emphasised the Consell’s firm support for the Balearic audiovisual sector as a strategic sector, encouraging meetings such as this one to facilitate its growth and increase its competitiveness.<\/p>\n

After the conversation with the sector, the Consell de Mallorca’s Councillor for Transition, Tourism and Sports, Andreu Serra, held an institutional meeting with both representatives to study ways of collaboration and to highlight the advantages of Mallorca as a filming destination for Netflix productions in Spain.<\/p>\n

Mallorca is also a regular setting for some of Netflix’s international productions, such as The Crown.<\/p>\n
