The best tennis player in history to date, Rafa Nadal, won his fourteenth Roland Garros title yesterday in Paris, beating Norwegian Casper Ruud 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 in just under three hours of play.<\/p>\n

Nadal once again made history and continues to add to his legend with this new title. He is the male player who has won the most Grand Slam tournaments with 22 victories, followed by Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer with 20. Further back are emblematic tennis players such as Pete Sampras (14) or Bj\u00f6rn Borg (11).<\/p>\n

There was much speculation prior to the Paris final as to whether this would be Nadal’s last match on the Paris clay or, perhaps, on any tennis surface for that matter. After securing a bittersweet semi-final berth against Germany’s Alexander Zverev (withdrawn due to injury), Nadal told at the press conference that “I would prefer to lose the final and have a new foot that allows me to be happier in my day-to-day life.”<\/p>\n

Life beyond tennis<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nadal’s impeccable professional career makes him one of the most admired sportsmen inside and outside our borders. But he is well aware that there is life beyond tennis. “Winning is nice and fills you with momentary joy. But life goes on and that’s the most important thing. I have a life ahead of me and I would like to play with my friends amateur sport and this right now is an unknown,” confessed Nadal.<\/p>\n

The truth is that the legendary Mallorcan tennis player has not yet confirmed whether he will play the next big one, the London grass tournament at Wimbledon, to be held in just three weeks. For Nadal right now the health of his battered foot is a priority. He himself admitted that he has played with his foot anesthetized during all the matches in Paris because of the severe pain and that he must try other treatments, because he cannot go on like this. “It is a life decision,” said Nadal.<\/p>\n

Grateful<\/strong><\/p>\n

During his speech after lifting his 14th Musketeers Cup, Nadal said that he does not know what will happen in the future, but he was going to fight until the end to be able to compete with the best.
