The Balearic Islands was the Spanish region in which the price of housing grew the most last year, with an increase of 9.6% compared to 2020, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).<\/span><\/p>\n

The greatest increases occurred in the Balearic Islands, Catalonia and the Basque Country, with a rise of 2.8 points in all of them. For their part, the communities where the annual rate rose the least were La Rioja and Region of Murcia, with increases of two and three tenths, respectively. <\/span><\/p>\n

In Spain as a whole, the annual variation of the Housing Price Index (HPI) in the fourth quarter of 2021 increased by more than two points and stood at 6.4%. It is the highest since the first quarter of 2019. <\/span><\/p>\n

By type of housing, the annual rate for new housing rose two points, to 6.1%. For its part, the variation of second-hand housing reached 6.4%, more than two points above that registered in the previous quarter and the highest since the fourth quarter of 2018. <\/span><\/p>\n
