The Balearic Islands is the Spanish region in which unemployment fell the most in January compared to the same month last year, with a decrease of 34.68%, while employment, with 433,993 Social Security affiliates, grew by 5, 3 %. <\/span><\/p>\n

According to EFE, the first month of 2022 ended in the archipelago with 54,435 people registered on the unemployment lists. This volume of registered unemployment represents 1,539 fewer unemployed than in December, with a percentage drop of 2.75%, and in absolute terms represents a decrease of 28,906 people compared to January 2021. <\/span><\/p>\n

Social Security registered a year-on-year increase of 21,878 affiliates, and in relation to the last month of 2021, the number of affiliates fell in January on the islands by 6,616 people, 1.5% less. In Spain as a whole, labor affiliation fell in January by 197,750 people in average terms, to 19,627,161 affiliates, while unemployment rose by 17,173 people in a month that is usually difficult for the labor market.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to information provided by the Ministry of Inclusion and Social Security, in seasonally adjusted terms, membership increased by 71,948 people compared to the previous month, “exceeding the usual average of the years prior to the pandemic.” <\/span><\/p>\n

As for the total number of unemployed registered in the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), in January it increased by 17,173 people compared to the previous month, up to 3,123,078 people, and it is, however, the best record in the last 25 years in a month in which unemployment usually increases. In annual terms, unemployment accumulates a record decrease, falling by 841,275 people.<\/span><\/p>\n
