The pace of construction in Mallorca little by little seems to be moving away from the negative impact of COVID-19 with 2,771 new housing projects in 2021, a figure that represents an increase of 18.1% compared to 2020, according to the data collected by the College of Quantity Surveyors and Technical Architects of Mallorca (COAAT).<\/p>\n
The entity has detailed in its 2021 balance that it endorsed 1,589 new multi-family homes, 17.5% more than the previous year and 1,182 single-family homes (detached or semi-detached), 19% more.<\/p>\n
“The sector is resisting with strength”, considers the president of COAAT Mallorca, Luis Alfonso de Le\u00f3n, “because despite the drop in visas in 2020, it has come back in 2021. “We have managed to reposition ourselves in figures almost identical to those of the end of 2019, just before the pandemic hit.”<\/p>\n
In a statement, the entity explained that the data reveals the upward trend in work permits that began in 2014 and that it was interrupted in 2020, with a drop of 15.4%, due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n
De Le\u00f3n considers that “it is essential to continue with the measures to stimulate and reactivate the economy, and that European aid for the energy rehabilitation of buildings be launched as soon as possible”.<\/p>\n
By municipalities, those registering the highest number of approved work projects in multi-family homes in 2021 are Palma (1,086), Calvi\u00e0 (120) and Marratx\u00ed (52).<\/p>\n
In single-family homes, the approved homes were mainly concentrated in Palma (130), Calvi\u00e0 (123) and Llucmajor (95).<\/p>\n
