The British authorities have announced that the Balearic Islands will enter the green list of risk trips due to COVID-19 soon. While the rest of the autonomous communities remain on the amber list, the archipelago will receive British tourists very soon thanks to the good epidemiological situation, which is expected to reactivate the second most important market for the Islands.<\/p>\n
Thus, travelers from the United Kingdom should not be quarantined for ten days when returning to their country, a measure that the Balearic Government has applauded, although it also makes a “special appeal” to individual responsibility to maintain the rate of infections by below 50 cases per one hundred thousand inhabitants. In an appearance before the media, the Minister of Tourism and spokesman for the Executive Iago Negueruela expressed last night the satisfaction of the Executive with the announcement. “The strategy we have followed in the Islands is paying off and it shows that the work done has had an effect”, he declared. The Government spokesman affirmed that the Balearic Islands are currently the “safest destination in the Mediterranean” but he alluded to prudence because “COVID-19 has not been overcome”.<\/p>\n
Given the arrival of thousands of international tourists to the islands in the coming weeks, the Balearic Islands yesterday asked the central government to “establish and ensure compliance with the sanitary controls provided for at airports and ports in the Balearic Islands”. The ultimate goal is to keep the health situation under control and “repeat images like the ones we have seen in recent days”, Negueruela said.
