Between packing and unpacking,\u00a0institutional and private\u00a0commitments and various trips,\u00a0who is already considered the\u00a0best Spanish athlete of all time,\u00a0Rafa Nadal from Manacor, recently\u00a0reincorporated to his training\u00a0sessions in Mallorca, has been\u00a0 able\u00a0to make a hole in his agenda to\u00a0answer Mallorca Global\u2019s questions\u00a0on personal and sporting aspects,\u00a0on how he faces the pandemic and\u00a0combines it with the daily demands\u00a0of the sport\u2019s elite in one of its most\u00a0successful seasons. Amid the great\u00a0uncertainty surrounding the ATP\u00a0calendar due to the coronavirus, his\u00a0next match, the Australian Open,\u00a0which was to be played in midJanuary, is delayed to February. This\u00a0year\u2019s calendar is complicated.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Entrevista<\/p>\n

Has the pandemic altered your life\u00a0a lot? What changes have you had\u00a0to make, in your team, your training\u00a0sessions, food, visits to family,\u00a0friends…?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I believe that the pandemic has\u00a0affected us all and has altered our lives\u00a0in a remarkable way. It is clear that the\u00a0first thought and the words are for\u00a0those directly affected, who are those\u00a0who were sick, those who are still sick,\u00a0and especially the families of the many\u00a0deceased who are not few. A tragedy.\u00a0The rest is relative and that we have to\u00a0change routines, that we have suffered\u00a0alterations in our lives, in the end\u00a0that goes to the background. Now\u00a0we have to think about rebuilding\u00a0everything, that people heal, that\u00a0the pandemic ends and that we can\u00a0recover our freedom.<\/p>\n

How and with whom does a global\u00a0leader like you isolate himself due to\u00a0COVID-19? How many times have\u00a0you had to do PCR tests?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is impossible to isolate yourself\u00a0completely in a world like sports.\u00a0After all, you are in competition and\u00a0in contact with people. We maintain\u00a0strict prevention and safety standards\u00a0and it is true that we do a lot of PCR\u00a0checks every 3\/4 days at tournaments.
\nSo far in this sense everything has gone well and we have been\u00a0fortunate to be able to compete.<\/p>\n

There are very\u00a0complicated matches,\u00a0but there is always\u00a0an option\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I suppose that your balance of the\u00a0season, despite being different, will\u00a0be positive, given the results, right?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Of course it is an atypical season,\u00a0where more than half the year we\u00a0have been without competing, but,\u00a0as I say, after all,\u00a0 fortunate compared\u00a0to other sectors and even sports.\u00a0But looking at the results, taking\u00a0everything into account, I think it\u00a0was a season where I managed to\u00a0win Roland Garros in very different\u00a0and complicated circumstances\u00a0and where I was able to reach the\u00a020 Grand Slams victories. Also very\u00a0happy for the triumph in Acapulco at\u00a0the beginning of the season and that\u00a0it was the last tournament and last point played before the pandemic.\u00a0[Nadal obtained in Acapulco 2020\u00a0the record of consecutive seasons -17- winning some title of the Open\u00a0era].<\/p>\n

\"Rafa<\/p>\n

Rafa Nadal is an indisputable\u00a0benchmark of honour. But how\u00a0many times have you thought about\u00a0throwing in the towel due to injury,\u00a0pressure or excessive dedication? –\u00a0At what point in a game can you\u00a0be defeated?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

My career can be considered long\u00a0due to the number of years on the\u00a0circuit. But it is clear that I have gone\u00a0through good times and others\u00a0less good. Moments in which you\u00a0 have doubts, pain of everything, but everything is to overcome it.\u00a0These are difficult moments, but\u00a0also there the help of the closest\u00a0people, family, team, friends counts\u00a0a lot. And as regards the matches, in\u00a0tennis the match does not end until\u00a0the last point and you have to fight\u00a0until the end because there is always\u00a0the possibility of winning. Of course\u00a0there are more complicated games,\u00a0very complicated, but there is always\u00a0an option.<\/p>\n

Have you ever felt pressured\u00a0by your environment?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Never. Quite the opposite. I have\u00a0always had immense support from my\u00a0family and my environment. I am very\u00a0grateful for it and I think that is how it\u00a0has to be, especially when you are a\u00a0child and the only important thing is\u00a0to have fun, giving always your best\u00a0shot but having fun.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have never felt pressured\u00a0by my surroundings, quite\u00a0the opposite\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

What do you value more: your\u00a0head and ability to overcome\u00a0or your physique?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

I think that in the world of tennis\u00a0everything goes together, it is not\u00a0a question of one thing or another.\u00a0Both have to go well combined to\u00a0win games.<\/p>\n

Do you enjoy tennis as much now as\u00a0when it started to emerge?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

I really enjoy the competition, I always\u00a0liked it and I keep that passion intact.<\/p>\n
