The National Police<\/strong> and the Govern’s Housing Inspection Service<\/strong> have discovered another overcrowded property in Manacor<\/strong>, where up to 30 people<\/strong> may have been living in extremely poor conditions<\/strong>. During the inspection, carried out last week, officers found 24 beds<\/strong>, some placed in corridors, and confirmed that the property had no toilet<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This is another case of substandard housing discovered in Manacor in just two months<\/strong>. In September, another overcrowded property was reported in the municipality, where up to 30 people may also have been living.<\/p>\n

During this latest operation, officers identified nine people<\/strong>, who stated that the number of residents could reach 30. In addition to the beds distributed throughout the property, inspectors found two rooms secured with padlocks<\/strong> and documented serious sanitation and hygiene deficiencies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Beds rented out for between \u20ac100 and \u20ac200 a month<\/h2>\n

According to statements from those identified, all were paying to rent a bed in the property<\/strong>, with monthly amounts ranging from \u20ac100 to \u20ac200. These figures are still subject to verification.<\/p>\n

\"Substandard<\/p>\n

The operation was carried out jointly by National Police officers in Manacor and staff from the Housing Inspection Service of the Conselleria de Vivienda, Territorio y Movilidad.<\/p>\n

The case follows another overcrowded property discovered in Manacor and reported by Mallorca Global Mag in September. During that inspection, officers identified seven people and found that some were sleeping in the courtyard, while others occupied rooms separated by curtains. Residents stated that they paid between \u20ac80 and \u20ac100 to stay there. More information at this link<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Both operations highlight the existence of overcrowding and poor living conditions in the municipality.<\/p>\n

Fines of up to \u20ac90,000 for overcrowding<\/h2>\n

The Govern has opened preliminary proceedings with a view to initiating sanctions. Under the Balearic Islands’ Housing Act, overcrowding is classified as a very serious offence, punishable by fines ranging from \u20ac30,001 to \u20ac90,000<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
