The authorisation follows a favourable report from the electricity system operator, confirming that the closure can proceed without jeopardising the electricity supply.

The Es Murterar power station in Alcúdia. The Govern and Endesa will examine potential uses linked to renewable energy, electricity storage and other energy solutions that could make use of the site and create new economic opportunities in the surrounding area.

The dismantling process will follow sustainability and circular economy principles. Specialist training initiatives are also being considered to encourage the involvement of local workers and businesses in the work ahead.

The transformation of Es Murterar forms part of the evolution of the Balearic Islands’ energy system, which must balance emissions reductions with a secure electricity supply.
