{"id":158268,"date":"2026-09-22T13:53:12","date_gmt":"2026-09-22T11:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/nit-recerca-2026-palma\/"},"modified":"2026-09-22T17:15:01","modified_gmt":"2026-09-22T15:15:01","slug":"nit-recerca-2026-palma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/en\/nit-recerca-2026-palma\/","title":{"rendered":"Nit de la Recerca 2026 in Palma to fill the Moll Vell with experiments, talks and science activities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong data-start=\"354\" data-end=\"389\">Nit de la Recerca 2026 (Research Night 2026) in Palma<\/strong> will take place this Friday, <strong data-start=\"416\" data-end=\"436\">25 September<\/strong>, at the <strong data-start=\"443\" data-end=\"456\">Moll Vell (Old Wharf)<\/strong>, which from <strong data-start=\"472\" data-end=\"487\">18:00<\/strong> will become a major space dedicated to science, with <strong data-start=\"547\" data-end=\"636\">experiments, workshops, short talks, exhibitions and activities for children and families<\/strong>. Photo: CAIB.<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>AI, physics, health and marine science experiments at the Nit de la Recerca 2026 in Palma<\/h2>\n<p>One of the main attractions of the Nit de la Recerca 2026 in Palma will be the <strong>Fireta Investigadora (Research Fair)<\/strong>, bringing together workshops and experiments from the UIB, IFISC, IdISBa, IMEDEA, Centro Oceanogr\u00e1fico de Balears, SOCIB and IRFAP, among other institutions.<\/p>\n<p>The programme will offer a hands-on introduction to research across a wide range of fields. Highlights include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Artificial intelligence robots<\/strong> capable of walking, playing and interacting, as well as mathematical challenges, neuroscience and gravitational physics.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>double pendulum to explore chaos and the butterfly effect<\/strong>, as well as experiments with metronomes and complex systems.<\/li>\n<li>Activities on <strong>microplastics, ocean acidification, the seabed and marine observation technologies<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Experiments involving <strong>biosensors, endocrine disruptors and microbiology<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Activities focusing on marine animals, native breeds, carob trees and local almond varieties.<\/li>\n<li>Activities on the <strong>prehistory of Mallorca, Mosquito Alert and scientific collections<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Short talks on psychedelic medicine, the brain and gravitational waves<\/h2>\n<p>The science outreach programme in Palma will also include short talks by researchers on current issues and different areas of research.<\/p>\n<p>Topics will include <strong>psychedelic medicine for mental health, gravitational waves and dark matter<\/strong>, the risks taken by the adolescent brain, prediabetes and brain health, Xylella fastidiosa, liver health, ocean observation and Cabrera&#8217;s underground karst wetlands, among others.<\/p>\n<h2>Science for children and exhibitions at the Moll Vell<\/h2>\n<p>Children and families will have their own space, with <strong>science storytelling sessions<\/strong> focusing on topics such as viruses, antibiotics, eclipses and the sea. Activities include <em>El meu primer eclipsi (My First Eclipse)<\/em>, <em>Los amigos del mar (Friends of the Sea)<\/em> and <em>SOCIB Kids: Quin\/a ocean\u00f2graf\/a vols ser? (SOCIB Kids: What Kind of Oceanographer Do You Want to Be?)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The Moll Vell will also host <strong>science exhibitions<\/strong> on the oceans, women who study the Earth and the work of female lighthouse keepers. The central esplanade will also feature <em>Les ombres de l&#8217;Eclipsi (The Shadows of the Eclipse)<\/em>, an exhibition linked to the photography competition of the same name.<\/p>\n<h2>The Nit de la Recerca 2026 will also take place in Menorca and Eivissa<\/h2>\n<p>The Nit de la Recerca 2026 will be held simultaneously in Mallorca, Menorca and Eivissa.
