The public network of charging points in the Balearic Islands<\/strong> has grown by 29.5% over the past three years. The MELIB<\/strong><\/a> network has expanded from 1,100 points in 2023 to 1,425 in 2026<\/strong>, an increase of 325. At the same time, the availability of these facilities has improved.<\/p>\n

Average operational availability stood at 60% in 2023. It has now reached 84%<\/strong>, an improvement of 24 percentage points. The Balearic Government aims to increase this figure to 90% over the next year.<\/p>\n

MELIB is the system that manages the archipelago’s public electric vehicle charging network. As well as expanding its infrastructure, it has introduced new maintenance systems and charging fees in recent years.<\/p>\n

Improved availability of charging points in the Balearic Islands<\/h2>\n

One of the measures introduced to improve the network’s performance is the use of comprehensive maintenance agreements. The Institut Balear de l’Energia (IBE) offers this service to public operators.<\/p>\n

The system includes 24-hour incident support<\/strong> as well as preventive and corrective maintenance. In 2025, 30 agreements were signed with local councils. This figure has now risen to 39.<\/p>\n

Charging fees have also become more widespread. In 2023, none of the municipalities in the network charged users. Two years later, 20 did so, and in 2026 the figure has risen to 36 municipalities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, use of the infrastructure continues to grow. During 2025, MELIB recorded 467,494 charging sessions<\/strong>, 44% more than the previous year.<\/p>\n

More than 1,000 private chargers to be available through the same app<\/h2>\n

Another change is the introduction of interoperability with private operators<\/strong>. The system will allow users to access chargers managed by different companies through a single app.<\/p>\n

The Balearic Government expects more than 1,000 private charging points to be visible on the MELIB platform<\/strong> during 2027. These will be added to the information already available on the public infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The regional government also aims to expand the public network to 1,500 charging points<\/strong> next year. This would mean adding another 75 to the current total.<\/p>\n

In addition, the target is to reach 75 maintenance agreements and the same number of public administrations and organisations applying charging fees. The plan includes all local councils in the Balearic Islands, the four island councils and other public bodies.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
