Cinema a la Fresca 2026 in Palma<\/strong> (Open-air Cinema) continues its programme over the next two weeks with several free outdoor screenings<\/strong>. The season enters its final stretch with films, short films and a tribute to the early years of cinema.<\/p>\n

Among the highlights is a screening of El gabinete del Doctor Caligari<\/em> (The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari<\/em>)<\/strong>, one of the great works of German Expressionism. Audiences will also be able to see El maquinista de la General<\/em> (The General<\/em>)<\/strong>, Buster Keaton’s celebrated film, which marks the centenary of its release this year.<\/p>\n

Screenings begin at 21:00<\/strong>. Until 26 August, they will take place at Parc de les Estacions<\/strong>. From 31 August, Cinema a la Fresca will move to Pla\u00e7a Francesc Garc\u00eda Orell<\/strong>, where the programme will conclude on 2 September.<\/p>\n

Cinema a la Fresca 2026 in Palma pays tribute to silent film<\/h2>\n

The first of two major silent film screenings will take place on Monday 24 August<\/strong>. Parc de les Estacions will host El gabinete del Doctor Caligari<\/em> (The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari<\/em>), directed by Robert Wiene and released in 1920.<\/p>\n

The film is considered one of the defining works of German Expressionism<\/strong>. Its story revolves around a hypnotist who uses a sleepwalker to commit murders. The screening will also feature live music by DJ Raphael Marionneau<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The closing night will also look back at the origins of cinema. On Wednesday 2 September<\/strong>, El maquinista de la General<\/em> (The General<\/em>), directed by Buster Keaton and Clyde Bruckman, will be screened. Keaton also stars in this comedy set during the American Civil War.<\/p>\n

The film celebrates the centenary of its release<\/strong> in 2026. Its story was inspired by a real event that took place in 1862 and centres on a spectacular railway chase.<\/p>\n

Flow<\/em> and Las chicas de la estaci\u00f3n<\/em> among the upcoming films<\/h2>\n

Before the change of venue, Parc de les Estacions will host two more films. On Tuesday 25 August<\/strong>, audiences can see Flow: un mundo que salvar<\/em> (Flow<\/em>), an animated film by Gints Zilbalodis notable for having no dialogue.<\/p>\n

A day later, on Wednesday 26 August, Las chicas de la estaci\u00f3n<\/em> (The Girls at the Station<\/em>), directed by Juana Mac\u00edas, will be screened. The film has a strong connection to Mallorca<\/strong>. It was produced with the participation of La Perif\u00e8rica and IB3 and was partly filmed in Palma.<\/p>\n

During the final week, Cinema a la Fresca will move to Pla\u00e7a Francesc Garc\u00eda Orell. Es gegant des Vedr\u00e0<\/em> (The Giant of Es Vedr\u00e0<\/em>), by Eivissa-born director H\u00e9ctor Escandell, will be shown there on Monday 31 August. On Tuesday 1 September, it will be the turn of Un like de Bob Trevino<\/em> (Bob Trevino Likes It<\/em>).<\/p>\n

The programme also includes short films before some screenings. Coin Coin<\/em>, La innoc\u00e8ncia<\/em> (Innocence<\/em>) and Charlie<\/em> are still to be shown.<\/p>\n
