The Balearic Government has selected these locations based on safety, accessibility and capacity criteria, but warns that they are not necessarily the places offering the best views of the phenomenon. Traffic restrictions and municipal measures will also be in place and should be checked before travelling.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"834\" data-end=\"1134\">The <strong>total solar eclipse on 12th August 2026 in Mallorca<\/strong> will be visible from numerous locations across the island, but the Government of the Balearic Islands has established <strong>nine Official Observation Zones (ZOO)<\/strong> across seven municipalities to help ensure safer and more orderly viewing.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1136\" data-end=\"1400\">The current official list includes locations in Palma, Calvi\u00e0, Felanitx, Porreres, Algaida, Llucmajor and other areas in central and southern Mallorca. The list published by the Balearic Government was last updated on 31st July.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1402\" data-end=\"1855\">However, it is important to understand exactly what it means for a location to be designated an Official Observation Zone. <strong>The ZOOs have not necessarily been selected because they offer the best views of the eclipse<\/strong>, but because they are places where the authorities believe they can better manage issues such as access, capacity and emergency-service response.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1ji7pu5\" data-start=\"1857\" data-end=\"1913\">The 9 official places to watch the eclipse in Mallorca<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1915\" data-end=\"2109\">According to information published by the Government of the Balearic Islands, these are currently the <strong>nine Official Observation Zones for the eclipse in Mallorca<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2111\" data-end=\"2424\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1ber0nl\" data-start=\"2111\" data-end=\"2155\"><strong>Circuit de Son Matamoros<\/strong>, in Felanitx.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1di0ez8\" data-start=\"2156\" data-end=\"2178\"><strong>Platja de Palma<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"50689b\" data-start=\"2179\" data-end=\"2203\"><strong>Ronda de Porreres<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1pigu4t\" data-start=\"2204\" data-end=\"2243\"><strong>Platja de Santa Pon\u00e7a<\/strong>, in Calvi\u00e0.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"qs0el6\" data-start=\"2244\" data-end=\"2275\"><strong>Camp de futbol d&#8217;Algaida<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1ss0y15\" data-start=\"2276\" data-end=\"2305\"><strong>Camp de futbol de Pina<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1i24z60\" data-start=\"2306\" data-end=\"2348\"><strong>From Maioris to Tolleric<\/strong>, in Llucmajor.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"9jcgz9\" data-start=\"2349\" data-end=\"2395\"><strong>Aparcament MA-3220<\/strong>, in the Petra area.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"19w9ocu\" data-start=\"2396\" data-end=\"2424\"><strong>Maioris<\/strong>, in Llucmajor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2426\" data-end=\"2615\">Altogether, Mallorca has <strong>9 official observation points across 7 municipalities<\/strong>, compared with 26 designated throughout the Balearic Islands.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"84ngv6\" data-start=\"2617\" data-end=\"2660\">What are the Official Observation Zones?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2662\" data-end=\"3031\">The Balearic Government analysed more than one hundred potential locations before selecting the 26 ZOOs across the archipelago. Factors taken into account included visibility of the phenomenon, accessibility, visitor capacity, parking availability and the ability of emergency services to respond if necessary.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3033\" data-end=\"3271\">The aim is to distribute observers across different locations, reduce pressure on particularly sensitive areas and allow the eclipse to be viewed in an orderly way that is compatible with protecting the environment.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3273\" data-end=\"3388\">For this reason, <strong>an Official Observation Zone should not be interpreted as being synonymous with \u201cthe best place to watch the eclipse\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3390\" data-end=\"3766\">In fact, if the eclipse can be viewed properly from a home, hotel or nearby open space, the authorities recommend avoiding unnecessary journeys. The Balearic Government also provides tools for checking in advance whether a particular location has a sufficiently clear view of the western horizon.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1nb2fhf\" data-start=\"3768\" data-end=\"3807\">Be aware of traffic restrictions<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3809\" data-end=\"3916\">Choosing one of these zones does not mean that it will be possible to drive there freely at any time of day.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3918\" data-end=\"4341\">The measures planned for 12th August include <strong>mobility restrictions in numerous parts of Mallorca<\/strong>. As a general rule, traffic restrictions are expected to apply between <strong>3:00 pm and 9:00 pm<\/strong>, although they may be brought forward, extended or expanded if traffic levels, car park capacity or safety requirements make this necessary.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4343\" data-end=\"4416\">Some municipalities will also implement their own measures and timetables.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4418\" data-end=\"4653\">In <strong>Platja de Palma<\/strong>, for example, restrictions will begin at 8:00 am on 12th August. In <strong>Santa Pon\u00e7a<\/strong>, the special operation will begin on the 11th, 24 hours before the eclipse.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4655\" data-end=\"4813\">Anyone planning to travel to one of the ZOOs should therefore check the latest situation again <strong>the day before and on 12th August itself<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"pw0e8b\" data-start=\"4815\" data-end=\"4853\">Santa Pon\u00e7a will have controlled capacity<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4855\" data-end=\"4937\">Santa Pon\u00e7a beach will be Calvi\u00e0&#8217;s Official Observation Zone.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4939\" data-end=\"5220\">The Town Council will control the capacity of the area and <strong>close access once maximum capacity has been reached<\/strong>. Access will also be restricted to locations such as Puig de sa Morisca and certain viewpoints in El Toro and the Illes Malgrats.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5222\" data-end=\"5356\">Calvi\u00e0 will also have a special mobility operation affecting Santa Pon\u00e7a, Costa de la Calma, El Toro and Portals Vells.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5358\" data-end=\"5472\">Travelling to Santa Pon\u00e7a therefore does not guarantee access to the official observation zone if it has already reached capacity.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1hf6xml\" data-start=\"5474\" data-end=\"5516\">Son Matamoros, the official zone in Felanitx<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"5518\" data-end=\"5607\">In Felanitx, the <strong>Circuit de Son Matamoros<\/strong> will be the designated observation area.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5609\" data-end=\"5844\">Access to the site will be limited and will close once capacity has been reached. The planned operation includes an ambulance, portable toilets, water sales points and reinforced security.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5846\" data-end=\"6114\">At the same time, <strong>vehicle access to Puig de Sant Salvador will be closed from 3:00 pm<\/strong>, except for hotel guests with a reservation. The authorities advise against travelling to the sanctuary to watch the eclipse.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1bd6ho5\" data-start=\"6116\" data-end=\"6150\">Maioris and the Llucmajor coastline<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-21154 size-large aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/atardecer-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"sunset during the eclipse\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/atardecer-200x150.jpg 200w, https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/atardecer-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/atardecer-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/atardecer-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/atardecer-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/atardecer-800x600.jpg 800w, https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/atardecer-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/atardecer-1200x900.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/atardecer-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/atardecer.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6152\" data-end=\"6314\">Llucmajor contains several of Mallorca&#8217;s designated official observation areas, including <strong>Maioris and the stretch between Maioris and Tolleric<\/strong>, as well as other locations along the surrounding coastline.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6316\" data-end=\"6546\">This area in particular will be subject to a major mobility operation during the afternoon of the eclipse, with controls and restrictions in residential areas including Maioris, Puig de Ros, sa Torre, Badia Blava, Badia Gran and Tolleric.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6548\" data-end=\"6701\">The Balearic Government also plans traffic controls on the Ma-6014 and at several access points along the Llucmajor coastline.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6703\" data-end=\"6917\">Anyone choosing this area should therefore plan particularly carefully how they will arrive and return, rather than simply travelling towards the coast by private vehicle without first checking the restrictions in force.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"s54p2\" data-start=\"6919\" data-end=\"6973\">Do you have to go to an official zone to watch the eclipse?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"6975\" data-end=\"7050\">No. <strong>You do not have to travel to a ZOO to watch the eclipse.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"7052\" data-end=\"7259\">The phenomenon will be visible from numerous locations across Mallorca, provided there is a good view towards the west and the horizon is not obstructed by mountains, buildings, vegetation or other obstacles.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"7261\" data-end=\"7711\">The Balearic Government recommends checking the location beforehand. Between 7th and 11th August, it is even possible to carry out a test by observing the position of the Sun at the relevant time, always using approved solar protection. The <strong>Horitz\u00f3 2026<\/strong> application also allows users to enter a location and digitally check whether the maximum phase of the eclipse will be visible from that point, taking the profile of the horizon into account.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"7713\" data-end=\"7917\">For many people, therefore, <strong>the best option may be to stay close to home or their accommodation<\/strong> rather than travelling to one of the areas where larger crowds are expected.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1tcmvqz\" data-start=\"7919\" data-end=\"7961\">Check the latest information before setting off<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"7963\" data-end=\"8097\">With only a few days to go before the eclipse, the various operations continue to be adapted according to expected visitor numbers and the needs of each municipality.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"8099\" data-end=\"8462\">Restrictions may be activated earlier than originally announced, extended or applied to additional access points if traffic problems occur or car parks reach maximum capacity.
