The A media lumbre<\/em> exhibition (Half-Light) in Mallorca<\/strong> will bring together 49 artists<\/strong> in a collective project exploring the dialogue between contemporary art<\/strong> and traditional crafts<\/strong>. Part of Biennal B<\/strong>, the exhibition will open between 22 and 23 July<\/strong> at Sa Refinadora<\/strong> (The Refinery) in Marratx\u00ed, Casal Solleric<\/strong> (Solleric Manor House) and Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani<\/strong> (Es Baluard Museum of Contemporary Art), where it will remain on display until 18 October<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The exhibition, curated by Blanca de la Torre<\/strong>, director of the Institut Valenci\u00e0 d’Art Modern (IVAM)<\/strong> (Valencian Institute of Modern Art), arrives on the island after premiering at the Valencian museum last February. It brings together artworks and artistic practices that celebrate materials and knowledge traditionally associated with craftsmanship, including ceramics, clay, wool, textiles, embroidery and natural fibres, while also incorporating voice and oral tradition as vehicles for preserving memory.<\/p>\n

Biennal B brings A media lumbre<\/em> to Mallorca<\/h2>\n

The arrival of A media lumbre<\/em> forms part of Biennal B<\/strong>, a collaborative initiative involving several cultural institutions that will travel across Valencia, Mallorca, Aragon and Catalonia<\/strong> through four exhibitions sharing the same conceptual framework while adapting to each territory.<\/p>\n

During the presentation of the exhibition, the Vice-President of the Consell de Mallorca and Councillor for Culture and Heritage, Ant\u00f2nia Roca<\/strong>, said: “Biennal B is a strategic commitment by the Consell de Mallorca to promote contemporary culture rooted in the local area and capable of reaching municipalities across the island.<\/strong>” She added that A media lumbre<\/em> “was born in a major urban museum such as IVAM and is reunited here in Mallorca with the land, craftsmanship and the memory held in people’s hands.”<\/p>\n

The councillor also highlighted that the Mallorcan edition is particularly significant thanks to the participation of artists from the Balearic Islands and others based in Mallorca<\/strong>, whose works engage with materials, techniques and landscapes characteristic of the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n

Three venues for an exhibition with its own identity<\/h2>\n

The A media lumbre<\/em> exhibition in Mallorca<\/strong> will be spread across Es Baluard<\/strong>, Casal Solleric<\/strong> and Sa Refinadora<\/strong>, with each venue presenting a distinct selection of works.<\/p>\n

At Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani<\/strong>, Luc\u00eda Loren<\/strong> presents a series of site-specific interventions created especially for the museum’s terraces. She is joined by Ricardo Calero, Andrea Canepa, Tonina Cresp\u00ed, Julie C. Fortier, Teresa Lanceta, Teresa Matas, Lara Ord\u00f3\u00f1ez, N\u00faria Riaza, Bel\u00e9n Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong> and Cecilia Vicu\u00f1a<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Casal Solleric<\/strong> features the work of 30 artists<\/strong>, including Pilar Albarrac\u00edn, Carolina Caycedo, Teresa Lanceta, Glenda Le\u00f3n, Albert Pinya, Alex Reynolds, Isabel Servera<\/strong> and Concha Ybarra<\/strong>, alongside other Spanish and international artists.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Sa Refinadora<\/strong> in Marratx\u00ed hosts an installation by Teresa Matas<\/strong> created from textile materials. Through the act of sewing, the artist reflects on memory, pain and vulnerability from both a poetic and material perspective.<\/p>\n

A project committed to sustainability<\/h2>\n

In addition to its journey through the four participating territories, A media lumbre<\/em> embraces sustainability<\/strong> by using natural, non-polluting materials, reusing exhibition elements and reducing the international transport of artworks.<\/p>\n

The project is accompanied by a publication documenting the initiative and featuring texts by Mar\u00eda Montesino<\/strong> and Mar\u00eda S\u00e1nchez<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The opening will begin on Wednesday 22 July<\/strong> at 7.00 pm<\/strong> at Sa Refinadora<\/strong>. A day later, the exhibition will open at Casal Solleric<\/strong> at 7.30 pm<\/strong> and at Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani<\/strong> at 8.30 pm<\/strong>.
