Palma City Council\u2019s Governing Board has approved the lease of the building, which will have capacity for around <strong>150 officers<\/strong> and will strengthen the force\u2019s operational capacity ahead of the planned increase in staff.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_152132\" style=\"width: 790px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-152132\" class=\"size-full wp-image-152132\" src=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Motos-Policia-Local-Palma.webp\" alt=\"Palma Local Police traffic restrictions for Sant Sebasti\u00e0 2026\" width=\"780\" height=\"520\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-152132\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Palma City Council.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The new facilities form part of the municipal plan to modernise the Local Police and improve its presence across Palma\u2019s neighbourhoods. Around <strong>170 new officers<\/strong> are expected to join the force during 2026, followed by a further <strong>50 officers<\/strong> in 2027.<\/p>\n<h2>The Son Castell\u00f3 Local Police station will occupy the former fire station<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The building, owned by ASIMA, was selected after the available alternatives in the area were assessed. Technical reports concluded that it is the only property that meets the requirements for the new police station, prompting the City Council to award the contract directly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The future headquarters will occupy the basement, ground, first and second floors of the former fire station. The facilities will include offices, meeting and <em>briefing<\/em> rooms, changing rooms, storage areas, technical and service rooms, as well as parking spaces for police vehicles.<\/p>\n<h2>ASIMA will fund the refurbishment work<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The refurbishment project has already been drawn up by the City Council. The work, with an estimated budget of <strong>\u20ac1 million<\/strong>, will be carried out and fully funded by ASIMA before the police station becomes operational.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The Governing Board has also authorised maximum expenditure of <strong>\u20ac3.52 million<\/strong>, including VAT, to cover the lease of the building for the planned <strong>20-year<\/strong> term.<\/p>\n<h2>A wider network of police stations<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The new police station will form part of a series of projects to expand and modernise Palma Local Police facilities.
