Mallorca’s heritage<\/strong> now has a new digital showcase<\/strong> thanks to the Mallorca Digitalizada y Realidad Aumentada (Digitised Mallorca and Augmented Reality)<\/strong> project. The initiative brings together 50 historical, cultural, natural and ethnological assets<\/strong> from the island on an interactive platform<\/strong> featuring immersive experiences and augmented reality content<\/strong> for residents and visitors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The project, promoted by the Consell de Mallorca<\/strong> with an investment of \u20ac600,000<\/strong> financed through European funds<\/strong>, includes the interactive platform www.mallorcadigitalizada.com<\/a><\/strong> and an experimental augmented reality application<\/strong>. Both tools were developed by the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB) and are managed by the Fundaci\u00f3 Universitat-Empresa de les Illes Balears (FUEIB).<\/p>\n

Discovering Mallorca\u2019s heritage through new technologies<\/h2>\n

Digitised Mallorca and Augmented Reality features natural areas such as Cabrera<\/strong> and Sa Dragonera<\/strong>, landmarks including the Serra de Tramuntana<\/strong> and Formentor<\/strong>, monuments such as the castles of Bellver<\/strong>, Alar\u00f3<\/strong> and Capdepera<\/strong>, and iconic buildings including La Llotja de Palma<\/strong> and the Palau de l’Almudaina<\/strong>. It also includes archaeological sites, festivals, traditions and examples of intangible heritage such as the Cant de la Sibil\u00b7la<\/strong>, the Fir\u00f3 de S\u00f3ller<\/strong> and the almond blossom<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"Digitised<\/p>\n

Each of these assets includes an extensive collection of multimedia materials<\/strong>, including videos, photographs, 360-degree images, three-dimensional reconstructions, interactive routes, immersive settings, animations, plans, illustrations and informative texts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The aim is to offer an intuitive experience that allows users to discover the island\u2019s heritage from anywhere<\/strong> and support its conservation and promotion through new technologies.<\/p>\n

A platform open to future additions<\/h2>\n

The UIB has designed the platform as a living project<\/strong>, ready to incorporate new assets over time<\/strong>. The repository will therefore continue to grow, offering an increasingly comprehensive overview of Mallorca\u2019s cultural, historical, natural and scenic heritage.<\/p>\n

According to the project director and head of the UIB\u2019s LADAT Animation and Audiovisual Technologies Unit, Juan Antonio Montes de Oca<\/strong>, the current 50 assets form a first representative selection<\/strong>. However, the tool has been designed to continue growing and become a benchmark for the conservation and promotion of Mallorca\u2019s heritage.<\/p>\n
