This is reflected in the labour market report presented by the Regional Minister for Labour, Public Function and Social Dialogue, <strong>Catalina Cabrer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"518\" data-end=\"697\">Specifically, <strong>54,006 new contracts<\/strong> were registered in the <strong>Balearic Islands<\/strong> in June, <strong>8,922 more than a year earlier<\/strong>. This represents an <strong>increase of 19.8%<\/strong> compared with the same period in 2025.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"699\" data-end=\"970\"><strong>Permanent contracts increased by 20.9%<\/strong>, ahead of <strong>temporary<\/strong> contracts, which rose by <strong>16.8%<\/strong>. Hiring increased <strong>across all the islands<\/strong>, most notably in Formentera (+35.1%), followed by Ibiza (+24.8%), Mallorca (+18.8%) and Menorca (+15.6%).<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"14lq2zw\" data-start=\"972\" data-end=\"1007\">Unemployment falls by 4.1% year on year<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1009\" data-end=\"1240\">The number of unemployed people in the <strong>Balearic Islands<\/strong> stood at <strong>23,707<\/strong> in June, <strong>1,015 fewer than a year earlier<\/strong>. In relative terms, this marks a <strong>4.1% decrease<\/strong>, bringing unemployment down to <strong>historic lows<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1242\" data-end=\"1391\">By island, unemployment fell most sharply in Menorca (-8.3%), followed by Mallorca (-4.0%) and Ibiza (-2.3%). In contrast, it rose in Formentera (+4.4%).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1242\" data-end=\"1391\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-156659 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/mallorcaglobalmag.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Camarera.webp\" alt=\"permanent employment contracts in the Balearic Islands\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1393\" data-end=\"1618\">By group, the sharpest falls were recorded among <strong>women<\/strong> (-4.8%), <strong>people aged over 25<\/strong> (-4.4%) and <strong>EU foreign nationals<\/strong> (-8.7%). By contrast, unemployment rose among non-EU foreign nationals (+13.2%).<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"175hmqj\" data-start=\"1620\" data-end=\"1677\">Extraordinary regularisation pushes up monthly unemployment, according to Cabrer<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1679\" data-end=\"1842\">Compared with <strong>May<\/strong>, unemployment <strong>rose by 0.4%<\/strong>. The regional government links this increase to the <strong>extraordinary regularisation process<\/strong> introduced by the Spanish Government.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1844\" data-end=\"2035\">In June, 224 foreign nationals were registered under the RE code, corresponding to the extraordinary regularisation process. These people are now registered with the SOIB employment service.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2037\" data-end=\"2330\">Catalina Cabrer explained that \u201cthe extraordinary regularisation process has caused <strong>monthly unemployment to rise for the first time since 2008<\/strong>\u201d. The regional minister added that the SOIB will continue to monitor the evolution of these figures because \u201c<strong>we are concerned that the service could come under pressure<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"sxh2bv\" data-start=\"2332\" data-end=\"2376\">Social Security membership exceeds 678,000<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2378\" data-end=\"2559\">The number of people registered with Social Security in the <strong>Balearic Islands<\/strong> reached <strong>678,195<\/strong> in June. This is <strong>20,214 more people<\/strong> than in the same month last year, representing an <strong>increase of 3.1%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2561\" data-end=\"2699\">On a <strong>month-on-month<\/strong> basis, Social Security membership increased by <strong>3.7%<\/strong> in the islands, above the national figure for Spain, which stood at <strong>0.6%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2701\" data-end=\"2909\">The self-employed scheme recorded <strong>109,543 members in June<\/strong>, accounting for <strong>16.2%<\/strong> of total registered employment in the <strong>Balearic Islands<\/strong>.
