The Balearic Islands<\/strong> are once again the autonomous community with the highest share of permanent employment contracts in Spain<\/strong>. 74% of the contracts<\/strong> signed in June were permanent, well above the national average<\/strong> of 41.5%<\/strong>. This is reflected in the labour market report presented by the Regional Minister for Labour, Public Function and Social Dialogue, Catalina Cabrer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Specifically, 54,006 new contracts<\/strong> were registered in the Balearic Islands<\/strong> in June, 8,922 more than a year earlier<\/strong>. This represents an increase of 19.8%<\/strong> compared with the same period in 2025.<\/p>\n

Permanent contracts increased by 20.9%<\/strong>, ahead of temporary<\/strong> contracts, which rose by 16.8%<\/strong>. Hiring increased across all the islands<\/strong>, most notably in Formentera (+35.1%), followed by Ibiza (+24.8%), Mallorca (+18.8%) and Menorca (+15.6%).<\/p>\n

Unemployment falls by 4.1% year on year<\/h2>\n

The number of unemployed people in the Balearic Islands<\/strong> stood at 23,707<\/strong> in June, 1,015 fewer than a year earlier<\/strong>. In relative terms, this marks a 4.1% decrease<\/strong>, bringing unemployment down to historic lows<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

By island, unemployment fell most sharply in Menorca (-8.3%), followed by Mallorca (-4.0%) and Ibiza (-2.3%). In contrast, it rose in Formentera (+4.4%).<\/p>\n

By group, the sharpest falls were recorded among women<\/strong> (-4.8%), people aged over 25<\/strong> (-4.4%) and EU foreign nationals<\/strong> (-8.7%). By contrast, unemployment rose among non-EU foreign nationals (+13.2%).<\/p>\n

Extraordinary regularisation pushes up monthly unemployment, according to Cabrer<\/h2>\n

Compared with May<\/strong>, unemployment rose by 0.4%<\/strong>. The regional government links this increase to the extraordinary regularisation process<\/strong> introduced by the Spanish Government.<\/p>\n

In June, 224 foreign nationals were registered under the RE code, corresponding to the extraordinary regularisation process. These people are now registered with the SOIB employment service.<\/p>\n

Catalina Cabrer explained that \u201cthe extraordinary regularisation process has caused monthly unemployment to rise for the first time since 2008<\/strong>\u201d. The regional minister added that the SOIB will continue to monitor the evolution of these figures because \u201cwe are concerned that the service could come under pressure<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n

Social Security membership exceeds 678,000<\/h2>\n

The number of people registered with Social Security in the Balearic Islands<\/strong> reached 678,195<\/strong> in June. This is 20,214 more people<\/strong> than in the same month last year, representing an increase of 3.1%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On a month-on-month<\/strong> basis, Social Security membership increased by 3.7%<\/strong> in the islands, above the national figure for Spain, which stood at 0.6%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The self-employed scheme recorded 109,543 members in June<\/strong>, accounting for 16.2%<\/strong> of total registered employment in the Balearic Islands<\/strong>. This represents 2,361 more self-employed workers<\/strong> than a year earlier (+2.2%) and 1,210 more than in May (+1.1%).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
