Atl\u00e0ntida Mallorca Film Fest 2026<\/strong> will celebrate its 16th edition<\/strong> from 24 July to 2 August<\/strong> with a programme featuring 141 films<\/strong>, 21 short films<\/strong>, 25 concerts<\/strong> and 20 talks<\/strong>. Organised by Filmin<\/strong>, the festival will once again turn the island into one of the leading meeting points for international auteur cinema<\/strong>, while its online<\/em> programme<\/strong> will continue until 24 August<\/strong> at filmin.es<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Among the main highlights of this year\u2019s edition is the premiere of El ser querido<\/em><\/strong>, the new film by Rodrigo Sorogoyen<\/strong>, which will close the festival before its theatrical release<\/strong>. The director will present the film in Mallorca alongside Javier Bardem and Vicky Luengo<\/strong>, in an edition that will also welcome some of the most prominent figures on the international film scene. The more than 300 guests<\/strong> include David Lowery, Fernando Trueba, Judith Godr\u00e8che, John Wilson, Molly Manners, Carlos Bardem, Maria S\u00f8dahl, Muriel d\u2019Ansembourg, B\u00e1rbara Farr\u00e9 and Soyunapringada<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The festival will open with Forastera<\/em><\/strong>, the debut feature by Mallorcan director Luc\u00eda Alenyar<\/strong>. After emerging as one of the revelations of the Toronto Film Festival, the production will open an edition with a particularly strong connection to talent from the islands.<\/p>\n

Alexandre Desplat, Gael Garc\u00eda Bernal and Trine Dyrholm to receive the Masters of Cinema award<\/h2>\n

One of the highlights of Atl\u00e0ntida Mallorca Film Fest 2026 will be the presentation of the Masters of Cinema<\/strong> awards, which this year will recognise three leading figures in contemporary cinema.<\/p>\n

Danish actress and singer Trine Dyrholm<\/strong> will receive the award on 28 July<\/strong>. Gael Garc\u00eda Bernal<\/strong>, one of the most international actors in Ibero-American cinema, will also be honoured, while French composer Alexandre Desplat<\/strong>, winner of two Oscars and the author of some of the most acclaimed film scores of recent years, will receive the award during the closing gala.<\/p>\n

The opening gala will also host the presentation of the Premi Illa de Cinema<\/strong> to Rafael Ruiz<\/strong>, the painter who, for almost five decades, turned the fa\u00e7ades of Palma\u2019s cinemas into genuine hand-painted works of art.<\/p>\n

141 films and numerous premieres at Atl\u00e0ntida Mallorca Film Fest 2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Official Section<\/strong> will bring together fourteen feature films<\/strong> in competition, eight of them Spanish premieres<\/strong>. Highlights among the selected titles include Erupcja<\/em><\/strong>, Charli XCX<\/strong>\u2019s first leading role; Lady<\/em><\/strong>, starring Sian Clifford<\/strong>; La educaci\u00f3n de Jane Cumming<\/em><\/strong>, with Fiona Shaw<\/strong>; and the world premiere of A fuego<\/em><\/strong>, by Estel D\u00edaz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Atl\u00e0ntida Premiere section<\/strong> will once again feature some of the most eagerly awaited releases of the season, including Mother Mary<\/em><\/strong>, directed by David Lowery and starring Anne Hathaway; Memoria de Chica<\/em><\/strong>, an adaptation of the work of Annie Ernaux directed by Judith Godr\u00e8che; En la Zona Gris<\/em><\/strong>, by Guy Ritchie; Jim Queen<\/em><\/strong> and La Batalla de Gaulle<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The festival will again reserve a prominent space for cinema made in the islands through Talent Balear<\/strong>, a section that confirms the strong creative momentum of Balearic audiovisual production and will showcase some of the latest works by its filmmakers.<\/p>\n

Classics<\/strong> will offer some of the most anticipated screenings for film lovers, with a visit from Fernando Trueba, special screenings of Trainspotting<\/em><\/strong> and High Art<\/em><\/strong>, and a cycle entirely dedicated to Greek director Theo Angelopoulos<\/strong>, offering the chance to rediscover five of his most emblematic works on the big screen.<\/p>\n

The Atl\u00e0ntida Mallorca Film Fest 2026 programme will be completed by the sections Trends<\/strong>, dedicated to some of the most daring proposals in contemporary cinema; Arts<\/strong>, focused on documentaries about key figures in contemporary culture; and Politics<\/strong>, with a selection of socially engaged films awarded at international festivals.<\/p>\n
