The Museu Krekovic<\/strong> is entering a new stage with the renewal of its museographic project<\/strong>, the incorporation of 22 works into its permanent collection<\/strong> and the creation of the Premi KrekoArt<\/strong>, whose first winner is the artist Oriol Angrill<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The vice-president of the Consell de Mallorca<\/strong> and councillor for Culture and Heritage, Ant\u00f2nia Roca, stressed that \u201cthis renewal places the Museo Krekovic where it belongs: as a living space<\/strong>, connected to the Llevant neighbourhood<\/strong> and to the cultural history of Mallorca<\/strong>\u201d. Roca also noted that the new project \u201crecovers the strength of Krekovic<\/strong> while also championing the presence of international artists<\/strong> who left their mark on the island\u201d, reinforcing the identity of a museum that looks both to its legacy and to the present.<\/p>\n

A renewed permanent collection at the Museu Krekovic<\/h2>\n

The main new feature at the Museu Krekovic<\/strong> is the update of its permanent collection, the first to be carried out in the last ten years<\/strong>. The new display incorporates 22 works and reinforces the figure of the painter Kristian Krekovic<\/strong>, whose artistic career maintained a close link with Mallorca<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In addition, the museum renews<\/strong> the space dedicated to foreign artists<\/strong> who developed part of their work on the island during the 20th century<\/strong>. The exhibition brings together pieces by creators such as Tito Cittadini, Roberto Ramaug\u00e9, George Sheridan, Mati Klarwein, William Edwards Cook, Erzs\u00e9bet Ringer, Ernest Curiel, M\u00e9dard Verburgh, Eugene Holbrook, Richt Miller, Ellis Jacobson and Steve Afif<\/strong>, among others.<\/p>\n

Oriol Angrill wins the first Premi KrekoArt<\/h2>\n

The inauguration also included the presentation of the first Premi KrekoArt, a biennial award created by the Consell de Mallorca to select an artistic intervention for the main fa\u00e7ade of the Museu Krekovic<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The jury awarded the prize to the artist Oriol Angrill Jord\u00e0 for his project Memoria de mar\u00e8s: El rostro de Krekovic<\/em><\/strong>. The proposal combines hyperrealism and references to Mallorcan identity through a large profile portrait of the painter, executed with a monochrome bas-relief effect (trompe-l’\u0153il<\/em>) that appears to be carved directly into the stone.<\/p>\n

The geometric background, inspired by traditional tela de lenguas<\/em>, creates a dialogue between the museum\u2019s artistic heritage and Mallorcan popular culture. According to the jury, the work stands out for its ability to turn the fa\u00e7ade into a new visual landmark in the Llevant neighbourhood and for offering a contemporary interpretation of Krekovic\u2019s legacy.<\/p>\n
