Wages in the Balearic Islands<\/strong> rose in 2025<\/strong> by the largest amount in the country<\/strong>, with an increase of 6.3%<\/strong> compared with the previous year. According to data from the Quarterly Labour Cost Survey by the National Statistics Institute<\/strong> (INE), the average wage cost per worker<\/strong> in the islands stands at \u20ac2,396.4<\/strong>. The increase is well above the national average<\/strong>, which stands at 3.2%<\/strong>, making the Balearic Islands the autonomous community where pay is rising the most<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In addition, for the first time<\/strong> since comparable records began, the average annual wage cost in the Balearic Islands is above the figure for Spain as a whole<\/strong>. The rise also exceeds inflation<\/strong> recorded in 2025, which stood at 3.1%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“In the Balearic Islands, wages are rising faster than the cost of living<\/strong>, and that is very good news<\/strong>. This is the result of collective bargaining and the efforts made by employers<\/strong> to implement wage increases. We are focused on ensuring that employment is of quality<\/strong>“, said Catalina Cabrer<\/strong>, Balearic minister for Labour, Public Service and Social Dialogue.<\/p>\n

Unemployment falls by 6.9% and reaches historic lows<\/h2>\n

The Balearic labour market also continues to show a positive trend<\/strong> in terms of unemployment<\/strong>. The number of people registered as unemployed in May<\/strong> stood at 23,607<\/strong>, which is 1,752 fewer<\/strong> than a year earlier and represents a year-on-year fall of 6.9%<\/strong>, according to the labour market report for May.<\/p>\n

This is one of the lowest figures in the historical series<\/strong>. By island, the fall was particularly significant in Formentera<\/strong> (-13.9%<\/strong>) and Menorca<\/strong> (-10.7%<\/strong>), followed by Mallorca<\/strong> (-6.8%<\/strong>) and Ibiza<\/strong> (-5.2%<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

The reduction in unemployment was sharper among women<\/strong> (-7.4%<\/strong>) and among people over the age of 25<\/strong> (-7.4%<\/strong>). The fall in long-term unemployment<\/strong> also stands out, with a reduction of 10.4%<\/strong> compared with May 2025.<\/p>\n

Another notable indicator is the administrative unemployment rate<\/strong>, which stands at 3.5%<\/strong>, the lowest of all autonomous communities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Balearic Islands lead permanent hiring<\/h2>\n

The islands continue to lead the national ranking for stable employment. In May, more than 75%<\/strong> of contracts signed in the Balearic Islands were permanent<\/strong>, well above the national average<\/strong>, which stood at 43.2%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In total, 48,744 new contracts<\/strong> were registered, 11.5% more than in April<\/strong>. Growth was particularly strong in Formentera<\/strong> (+53.8%<\/strong>) and Menorca<\/strong> (+46%<\/strong>), although it also increased in Ibiza<\/strong> (+19.2%<\/strong>) and Mallorca<\/strong> (+5.5%<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Social Security registrations exceed 653,000 people<\/h2>\n

Social Security registrations<\/strong> reached 653,823 people<\/strong> in May, representing an increase of 15,233 registrations<\/strong> compared with the same month of the previous year (+2.4%<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Compared with April, the increase was 48,193 people<\/strong>, equivalent to growth of 8%<\/strong>, well above the figure recorded in Spain as a whole<\/strong>, where registrations rose by 1%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
