The impact of the war in Iran on the Balearic Islands<\/strong> is already being felt by 93%<\/strong> of residents<\/strong> in their household finances<\/strong>. This is reflected in the first survey carried out by Estudis d\u2019Opini\u00f3 de les Illes Balears<\/strong> (EOIB), promoted by the Govern<\/strong> and funded through the sustainable tourism tax<\/strong>, to analyse how the international conflict is affecting citizens\u2019 daily lives<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The survey, conducted between 6 and 13 May<\/strong> by the Institut Balear d\u2019Estudis Socials<\/strong> (IBES) among more than 1,500 residents over the age of 18<\/strong>, concludes that eight out of ten citizens<\/strong> perceive a loss of purchasing power<\/strong>. In addition, between 40% and 55%<\/strong> now report greater difficulty saving<\/strong>, making ends meet or maintaining leisure activities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Rising costs for supplies and fuel<\/h2>\n

The survey shows that at least 70%<\/strong> of respondents have noticed a rise in the cost of supplies, fuel, food, drinks and cleaning products<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In addition, 66%<\/strong> of residents express concern about the geopolitical consequences<\/strong> of the conflict, while 69%<\/strong> are concerned about its humanitarian impact<\/strong> on the civilian population.<\/p>\n

In the economic sphere<\/strong>, 70%<\/strong> say they are very or fairly concerned about the consequences for the Spanish economy<\/strong>, while 61%<\/strong> express the same level of concern regarding the Balearic economy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The survey also reflects changes in everyday mobility<\/strong>. 63%<\/strong> of citizens say they have changed their transport habits<\/strong>, while more than a third say they use their private vehicle less<\/strong>, which has increased the use of public transport<\/strong> and forms of active mobility<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Transport and tourism, the sectors causing the greatest concern<\/h2>\n

According to the study, transport<\/strong> is the sector citizens consider most vulnerable<\/strong> to the economic consequences<\/strong> of the conflict, with 59%<\/strong> of responses. It is followed by tourism<\/strong>, with 50%<\/strong>, and commerce<\/strong>, with 35%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

81%<\/strong> of respondents also believe that the conflict will have consequences for the labour market<\/strong>, while more than half<\/strong> consider that it will make economic activity more difficult<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

International uncertainty is also affecting residents\u2019 financial decisions<\/strong>. 34%<\/strong> admit that the conflict has influenced their investments: 22%<\/strong> have decided to postpone planned investments and 12%<\/strong> have abandoned them altogether.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
