The future Llu\u00eds Sitjar sports pavilion<\/strong> will have capacity for between 2,000 and 2,500 spectators<\/strong> and will promote the creation of more than 650 parking spaces in Es Fort\u00ed<\/strong>. The project will have an estimated budget of \u20ac43.5 million<\/strong> and will cover an area of nearly 48,000 square metres<\/strong>. The proposal will also incorporate around 32,500 square metres of green space<\/strong> linked to Palma\u2019s Falca Verda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Mayor of Palma, Jaime Mart\u00ednez Llabr\u00e9s<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, has presented the guidelines for the architectural design competition<\/strong> following their approval by the Junta de Govern. The project includes the construction of a new sports facility on the site of the former Llu\u00eds Sitjar stadium, together with new parking areas and a major urban and landscape redevelopment of the surrounding area.<\/p>\n

Mart\u00ednez Llabr\u00e9s recalled that Palma has experienced significant population growth in recent decades<\/strong>, a reality that has increased the demand for public and sports facilities<\/strong>. \u201cPalma needs new sports infrastructures that are modern, versatile and adapted to the city\u2019s current and future needs<\/strong>,\u201d the mayor stated.<\/p>\n

The new Llu\u00eds Sitjar sports pavilion will strengthen the Falca Verda<\/h3>\n

During the presentation, Mart\u00ednez Llabr\u00e9s highlighted that the project will help recover \u201ca space historically linked to Palma\u2019s collective and sporting memory<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Llu\u00eds Sitjar area forms part of the green corridor of the Torrent de Sa Riera<\/strong>. This axis connects spaces such as parc de Sa Riera, the Can\u00f2drom, S\u00ednia d\u2019en Gil<\/strong> and the future urban forest at the El Tirador velodrome<\/strong>. According to the City Council, the project will improve the urban connection between Son Cotoner, Es Fort\u00ed and Palma city centre<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The mayor also stressed that the regeneration of the area will \u201cstrengthen this green continuity and consolidate a major urban and landscape connection\u201d between different parts of the city.<\/p>\n

More than 650 parking spaces in Es Fort\u00ed<\/h3>\n

The project includes 125 parking spaces for pavilion users<\/strong> and five for coaches<\/strong>. It will also provide 400 spaces for residents<\/strong> in the underground car park at Pla\u00e7a Barcelona<\/strong>. In addition, a further 131 newly created spaces<\/strong> will be added on Ram\u00f3n Pic\u00f3 i Campamar street<\/strong> thanks to the new alignment planned for this road.<\/p>\n

According to the mayor, the project will \u201csignificantly relieve the parking pressure currently affecting this area of Palma and substantially improve the functionality of the Es Fort\u00ed neighbourhood and its surroundings\u201d.<\/p>\n

A multifunctional pavilion for sport and community activities<\/h3>\n

The competition guidelines establish that the future Llu\u00eds Sitjar sports pavilion must include an interior clear height of between 10 and 12 metres<\/strong>. The pavilion will feature changing rooms, a medical room, meeting rooms, a caf\u00e9 and auxiliary areas for athletes and spectators.<\/p>\n

The project also includes two rooms for neighbourhood associations and other community groups. In addition, the guidelines foresee that the new facility will host different sports disciplines and provide modern, functional spaces for complementary uses.<\/p>\n

Palma will preserve the memory of the former Llu\u00eds Sitjar stadium<\/h3>\n

The urban proposal aims to preserve historic elements of the former RCD Mallorca<\/span><\/span> stadium. The guidelines include the incorporation of a topographical footprint or another symbolic element recalling the original layout of the ground.<\/p>\n

In addition, the historic entrance gateway of the Llu\u00eds Sitjar stadium will be preserved and enhanced<\/strong>, although it may be relocated within the new development area.<\/p>\n

The competition will take place in a single phase and will include a jury made up of municipal representatives, specialised technicians, renowned architects, members of the COAIB and neighbourhood representatives. The guidelines also establish a total of \u20ac55,000 in prize money<\/strong>, divided between a winning proposal awarded \u20ac25,000 and two finalist projects awarded \u20ac15,000 each.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
